Position Summary
The Medical Billing Specialist is responsible for managing the billing and reimbursement cycle for sleep testing services. This role ensures accurate claim submission, proper follow-up with insurance companies, and resolution of billing discrepancies to maximize revenue and maintain compliance with payer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and submit clean claims to insurance companies in a timely manner.
- Verify insurance eligibility and benefits for patients prior to services being rendered.
- Post payments, adjustments, and denials accurately into the billing system.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims, working with insurance representatives to resolve issues.
- Communicate with patients regarding billing questions, account balances, and payment arrangements.
- Maintain knowledge of payer rules and guidelines specific to sleep testing and durable medical equipment (DME), when applicable.
- Assist with appeals and provide documentation to support claim reconsideration.
- Generate and analyze billing and accounts receivable reports to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, payer policies, and company procedures.
- Collaborate with the revenue cycle team to improve workflows and enhance efficiency.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree or certification in medical billing / coding preferred.2+ years of experience in medical billing, preferably in sleep medicine, diagnostics, or DME.Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS codes, and insurance claim processes.Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and billing software.Strong understanding of payer requirements, including Medicare and commercial insurers.Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving ability.Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with patients, payers, and internal teams.EEO Statement
