Overview
Directs Team Leaders and other Team Members in assigned manufacturing area(s) in the execution of the group's responsibilities. Supports the manufacturing areas and maintains the Toyota Production System with a focus on minimizing downtime, increasing productivity, and coordinating preventative maintenance activities. Manages the group as an operational unit and is responsible to accomplish company goals and targets in accordance with all company policies, maintenance standards and methods, and standards for safety, quality, productivity, cost reduction, housekeeping, efficiency, training, teamwork, and morale.
Responsibilities
- Function as a first-line supervisor over team leaders and team members.
- Plan and coordinate hiring and placement of team members with the Assistant Manager. Monitor staffing, work hours, overtime, job rotation, and absenteeism.
- Ensure compliance with all company rules, policies, and practices, and take corrective action as warranted, per the Team Member Handbook.
- Manage and appraise team member performance; recommend corrective action.
- Develop and maintain positive team member relations; emphasize safety, quality, efficiency, productivity, cost reduction, and morale.
- Lead and maintain maintenance and repair operations of the assigned area; achieve department hoshin goals and target implementation schedules.
- Utilize Toyota Production System techniques to standardize processes, reduce waste, and eliminate process variation.
- Develop standardized work procedures for equipment and tooling.
- Direct work of Team Leaders and Team Members based on production schedules and current conditions.
- Ensure effective and correct manufacturing maintenance and repair operations through consistent application of Toyota Boshoku Business Practices (TBBP).
- Perform essential job functions of team leaders or team members as needed to maintain operations.
- Direct and coordinate maintenance activities on production equipment, facilities, and utility systems to provide a reliable production platform.
- Develop predictive and preventive maintenance programs with production management.
- Monitor PM scheduling and evaluate breakdowns for PM effectiveness.
- Coordinate repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment to ensure continuous operations.
- Manage machine uptime / downtime aligned with department and company goals.
- Coordinate maintenance and operations of facilities and utility systems.
- Obtain part quotations and submit purchase orders for repairs; support spare parts purchases and tooling crib; source replacement components as needed.
- Develop maintenance systems to support annual plan targets; maintain safety and efficiency of equipment and tooling.
- Monitor parts flow, productivity, and quality; take corrective actions as needed.
- Partner with Manufacturing to investigate and contain issues; act as a technical problem-solving resource for equipment interruptions.
- Troubleshoot daily safety, machine, equipment, and tooling issues; lead continuous improvement activities; participate in KPI setting and monitoring.
- Maintain KPI boards and initiate continuous improvement projects; lead ideas and initiatives from team members and Management.
- Maintain a safe working environment; ensure compliance with safety regulations and PPE requirements; participate in 5S, safety audits, and related activities.
- Maintain knowledge of hazardous waste, spill response, and plant security; monitor safety and health of team members.
- Train and coach team members; oversee training and maintain training matrix; multi-skills training for breakdown handling.
- Prepare department instruction manuals; develop training plans and provide coaching to improve performance.
- Collect, record, and analyze information; prepare business reports and data spreadsheets; maintain records and logs of department activities.
- Communicate with internal contacts and facilitate two-way communication; coordinate across shifts and upstream / downstream groups.
Qualifications
Education – High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required. Associate's degree in Business, Manufacturing, Maintenance, Industrial Technology, or related field required; Bachelor's Degree preferred. Skilled Trades journeyman status or trade certification preferred.Experience – Minimum three (3) years of relevant maintenance experience; experience in maintenance / repair across electrical, electronics, fabrication, hydraulics, injection molding, mechanical drives, pneumatics, robotics, stamping, welding, conveyors, and PLC programming / troubleshooting. Minimum two (2) years of leadership or supervisory experience. Automotive industry experience preferred; experience in automotive interiors preferred. Working knowledge of Toyota Production System preferred.Personal / Technical Skills – Leadership capability; root-cause analysis; strong knowledge of industrial technology; broad understanding of electrical, electronics, fabrication, hydraulics, robotics, and related areas; ability to read blueprints and technical manuals; identify and solve problems; effective communication and teamwork; ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-department environment; ability to plan, supervise, and maintain safety, quality, 5S, cost, and efficiency; strong organization and time-management skills.Language – Strong verbal and written English.Computer / Software – Experience with ERP systems (Oracle preferred) and Microsoft Office; familiarity with other office software.Training – Willing to complete and apply training in listed areas including maintenance equipment, cross-training, hazardous waste requirements, and applicable software.Environment and Travel
Office : Open office environment with moderate noise; PPE may be required in designated areas.Plant : Typical automotive plant environment; frequent safety PPE usage; moderate to challenging conditions (cold, dust, heat, odor).Travel : Minimal.Physical Demands
