The role involves caring for patients who have undergone various cardiac and thoracic surgeries. Patients may include those recovering from CABG, TAVR, SAVR, MVR, and VATS procedures. The unit has a mixed acuity, so the nurse must be comfortable transitioning between intensive care and progressive care unit ratios. ICU ratios may be 1 : 2, and progressive care ratios can vary. The ideal candidate will have experience with a variety of cardiac procedures and patient populations. Previous charge experience is preferred but not mandatory. The nurse will be expected to float within the hospital or potentially to nearby affiliates. Working every other weekend is required. Candidates must have strong skills in interpreting and managing cardiac rhythms. Experience with intra-aortic balloon pumps and ventricular assist devices is preferred. All rooms are private and equipped with overhead lifts for patient transfers. The unit is supported by various interdisciplinary teams. The patient population includes adults and geriatrics with cardiovascular, thoracic, and oncology diagnoses. Candidates should be prepared to work two out of three major holidays.
