IT Cloud Drupal Subject Matter Expert

IT Cloud Drupal Subject Matter Expert to lead the modernization, migration, and optimization of Drupal-based web platforms for the Department of Commerce. This role requires deep expertise in cloud-native Drupal architecture, federal security compliance, and scalable content management solutions. The SME will serve as a strategic advisor and hands-on developer, driving innovation and performance across mission-critical digital services.
Responsibilities
- Architect and implement Drupal solutions in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Lead migration of legacy Drupal sites to modern, cloud-optimized platforms
- Develop and maintain custom modules, themes, and integrations aligned with agency requirements
- Ensure platform security, accessibility (Section 508), and compliance with federal standards (FISMA, FedRAMP, NIST)
- Collaborate with UX, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to deliver responsive, scalable web applications
- Optimize performance, caching, and CI / CD pipelines for Drupal deployments
- Provide technical leadership, documentation, and mentorship across development teams
- Support stakeholder engagement and translate business needs into technical solutions
Required Qualifications
8+ years of experience in Drupal development and architectureStrong proficiency in PHP, HTML / CSS, JavaScript, and MySQL / PostgreSQLExperience deploying and managing Drupal in cloud environments (AWS preferred)Familiarity with Acquia, Pantheon, or similar Drupal hosting platformsKnowledge of federal web standards, security protocols, and accessibility requirementsBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Web Development, or related field (or equivalent experience)Preferred Skills
Certifications : Acquia Certified Drupal Developer, AWS Solutions Architect, or equivalentExperience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and infrastructure-as-code toolsBackground supporting federal agencies or working within government contracting environmentsFamiliarity with Agile methodologies and DevSecOps practicesThis program requires US Citizenship
Position Details :
Pay Rate / Range : $50-$60 / hrThe above salary range represents the range expected for the position; however, final salary offers are based on a number of factors such as the position's responsibilities; the candidate's experience, education, and skills; location; travel required; and current market conditions.
