Job Description - Chief Of Staff
Position Description
The Chief Of Staff creates an environment for the CEO that results in effective time management, adequate flow of information, understanding of the political landscape and meeting preparedness, to support effective decision-making processes. This position is an integral part of the CEO's day-to-day activities and as such, will identify key issues, industry research and input from other leaders to act as an advisor to the CEO. Leads the CEO Administration team to ensure Officer team receives reliable and efficient administrative support. Lead projects as directed, supports the officer team on major initiatives, providing additional capabilities and capacity.
Position-Related Responsibilities
Manage information flow to / from the CEOUnderstand the what, why and whenEnsure required information is on time and on targetManage any follow-up / action items that are requiredManage development of presentationsUnderstand the objective, the audience and key messagesDevelop timeline and working with leaders, identify who to involveDevelop presentation materials, background information, notes and talking points with support from others in relevant departmentsEnsure the materials are delivered on time and on targetEnsure CEO is prepared in advance of meetings and presentationsConduct background research on relevant issues / audiencesHelp refine the CEO's message and ensure that it is understood by the right audiencesReview developed materials with CEOAdvisor to the CEORegularly attend meetings with the CEO; maintain notes regarding key issues and action itemsKeep track of projects and issues important to the CEO and other leadersKeep CEO abreast of industry issues and trends, community issues and current eventsProvide constructive feedback to CEOWork with Executive Coordinators to help CEO maintain a balanced work scheduleAdvisor regarding CEO decisions and public engagements relative to Political LandscapeMonitor and interpret local, state, and federal legislative developments affecting the utility sectorAdvise the CEO on political risks, regulatory changes, and emerging policy trendsBuild and maintain relationships with key government officials, regulatory bodies, and community leadersCoordinate with Government Affairs, Legal, Corporate Communications and Regulatory teams to ensure unified messaging and strategic positioningProvide capacity and capability to the officer teamProvides preparation and structure for executive team and officer meetingsMaintains oversight of status of strategic initiatives and organizational prioritiesLead certain projects related to team or organizational effectiveness, or cultureLead CEO Administration teamSupervises and supports development of the CEO Administration team to provide efficient and reliable administrative support for the CEO and officer teamResponsible for success of major events and activities planned by Executive CoordinatorsCoordinate board materials, provide comprehensive support for board preparation, and assist with planning and administrative functionsStrategy Development and Tracking SupportCoordinate with leaders to track progress toward goalsSupport execution of strategy through bridging gaps between silos or business units to ensure alignmentKnowledge, Skills and Abilities

A Bachelor's degree is required preferably in Business, Legal, Engineering, Public administration / public policy, or related disciplines.5-10 years' experience demonstrating the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above and ideally a combination of education and experience.Good understanding of our industry, company and communitiesDemonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with diverse groups across functional lines and effectively build relationshipsGood interpersonal skills are critical.
