Scarsdale Youth Hockey Association (‘SYHA’) is a volunteer-run non-profit that was founded in 1996. Our primary goal as an organization is to provide opportunities for children aged 6 - 18 in the Scarsdale and Greater Westchester County area to learn, develop and play ice hockey in a safe, fun, and competitive environment.

We are seeking part-time youth hockey coaches at all age levels to provide a safe and enthusiastic environment and help develop the hockey talent in our program. As a youth hockey coach, you will be responsible for teaching and developing hockey skills, fostering teamwork, and promoting sportsmanship among players. This is an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact on young athletes and help them grow both on and off the ice.
- Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and conduct hockey practices, drills, and game strategies
- Teach fundamental hockey skills such as skating, stickhandling, shooting, and passing
- Develop players' understanding of game tactics and strategies
- Provide individualized coaching to players to help them improve their skills
- Promote teamwork, sportsmanship, and a positive team culture
- Ensure the safety of all players during practices and games
- Collaborate with other coaches to create a cohesive coaching approach
- Communicate effectively with players, parents, and other staff members
- Schedule Requirements
- Practice : 2 x 1 hour per week (Tuesday and Thursday evenings between 5pm & 10pm)
- Games : 2 x 1.5 hours per week (one on each of Saturday and Sunday)
- Tournaments; 2 x tournament attendance (coach’s travel and lodging costs covered by organization)
- Qualifications
- High-level skating experience either as a coach or player
- Previous experience coaching youth hockey is strongly preferred
- Available to be onsite in our lower Westchester, New York based rinks between mid-August and end-March
- Completion of (min.) USAH CEP Level 1
- Completion of USAH Age Appropriate Modules
- Over 18 years old with flexible hours
- Valid driver's license and own transportation required
- Self-employed or LLC Employer ID
- Workers compensation cover or exemption certificate
- Clean Background Check
- Valid SafeSport Certification
- First Aid training is preferred but not required
