Collections Specialist

Location : Indianapolis, IN Pay : $19–$21 / hour (based on experience) Schedule : Full-time Onsite | Monday through Friday 8-5, with some flexibility

Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Collections Specialist to join our finance team. This role is responsible for managing the collection of outstanding accounts receivable, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring timely follow-up with clients. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, a customer-focused approach, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contact customers via phone, email, and mail to follow up on past-due accounts.
  • Investigate and resolve payment discrepancies and disputes.
  • Maintain detailed records of collection activities and customer interactions.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to resolve billing issues and ensure accurate invoicing.
  • Monitor aging reports and escalate delinquent accounts as needed.
  • Negotiate payment arrangements and recommend accounts for further action when necessary.
  • Prepare reports on collection status and trends for management review.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable regulations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in business or finance preferred.
  • 1+ years of experience in collections, accounts receivable, or customer service.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and accounting software.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Professional, courteous, and persistent approach to collections.
