Medical Assistant Description of Duties and Responsibilities
Front and Back Office
Manages office telephone systems, including answering calls and returning messages.Performs data entry tasks to document patient records within facility databases and maintains patient files.Coordinates daily office activities.Greet patients.Records patient's vital signs and changes in medical conditions in the proper systems.Collects blood, tissue, and fluid samples, documents in the patient online database and sends them in for laboratory analysis.Correctly handles biohazard waste.Preps exam rooms for clinical procedures and assist providers with patient careAssists providers during routine checkups, outpatient procedures, and other physical examsMonitors and thoroughly documents patient symptoms for provider review during clinical exams.Provides compassionate patient support and care, attention, and assistance during office visits.Prepares and administers medications under the direction of supervising physician.Additional responsibilities as required.Requirements :
Medical Assistant Qualifications
Education
Graduation from an accredited medical assistant program.Graduates of a Licensed Practical Nursing program will also be considered.Phlebotomy certification preferred.Experience
2-3 years prior experience in a medical office or related medical facility preferredCertifications
Current BLS / CPR CertificationMedical Assistant registration / certification preferredSkills & Competencies
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.Proficient with technology, including Zoom, Teams, Microsoft Office Suite, Electronic Medical Record systems, or related software.Proficiency with EKG.Demonstrates professionalism, respect, and tact always.Basic understanding of medical terminology, coding procedures, and clinical pharmacology.Displays enthusiasm and a positive attitude toward coworkers and all members of the practice.Understands and adheres to patient confidentiality.Ability to work with diverse groups of people of varying ages, ethnicities, life experiences, etc.Comfortable working independently as well as part of the teamDependable, displays flexibility and shows initiative.Special Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, there is possible exposure to blood and body fluids, infectious diseases, chemicals, and repetitive motions.The employee is regularly required to sit and use a computer.Frequently required to talk, hear, and reach with hands and arms.Must occasionally lift and / or move up to 20 pounds.
