  • This position will operate full-time Monday through Friday from 9am-5pm in Southern Lorain County to expand current crisis services with the goal of reducing wait times for the southern portion of the county (including but not limited to Oberlin, LaGrange, and Wellington). The position will consult with a Crisis Manager at the Main Riveon location and may report there occasionally for training, meetings, and coverage as necessary. The crisis services team responds in pairs for best practice and safety of staff and clients, a trained crisis assistant will be assigned to the team.

    Pay Range : $25.72 - $31.35 per hour

    Placement within the pay scale is commensurate with experience and qualifications

    POSITION PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES

    The primary responsibility of this position is to provide emergency mental health assessments, diagnostic assessments, crisis intervention, and stabilization support for clients in the community and on the Hotline. As an appropriately degreed / licensed member of the crisis staff, this clinician serves with others as a Health Officer for the county subject to approval by the Executive Director of the Mental Health and Addiction Recovery Services Board of Lorain County. All job functions are performed under the supervision of the crisis team leaders and shift supervisors.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Respond to emergency requests for service in the target area at the person's home or in the community. Communicate with the manager to triage calls for assessments and walk-ins. Gather information for emergency assessments as well as provide information and referrals to clients in the community.
  • Provide telephone support and crisis intervention to clients who call the hotline. Provide information about local resources and referrals to callers.
  • Perform crisis intervention for clients and their significant others. Provide face-to-face counseling to clients and significant others to promote stabilization of a crisis situation.
  • Perform crisis mental health assessments. Determine the needed interventions to ensure safety of clients and others based on the mental status assessments.
  • Interact and consult with First Responders and other community persons when needed to establish the final disposition with the person.
  • Transport clients in company vehicle to community sites as needed as long as it is safe for staff and client to do so, based on client needs.
  • Carry out duties as a health officer in Lorain County. Assess the mental status of persons to determine the safety of clients and others according to the emergency medical certificate guidelines. Make outreach as needed to assess and intervene with clients reported to be in crisis.
  • Work with families, significant others, other community agencies and law enforcement officials as needed to assess and intervene with clients reported to be in crisis.
  • Meet with community members to increase awareness of crisis services and suicide prevention.
  • Provide critical incident debriefing, support and education to the community.
  • Attend meetings at the Main Riveon either in person or via Microsoft Team as scheduled.
  • Train students and new staff working in crisis as you become more comfortable in your own role, should the need arise.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork on time and follow procedures and clinical standards in performing all job duties. Complete any and all assessment items (e.g. contact notes, hub shift reports, crisis alerts, billable service notes, diagnosis documents, incident reports, etc.).
  • Consult with MD’s and other hospital staff as needed regarding client assessments and crisis interventions.
  • Ensure competence and annual certification in the following areas : CPR, First Aid, Physical Crisis Intervention, and Rape Crisis training.
  • React to change and stress productively and be able to handle other tasks as assigned with the support of the manager and crisis team.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
  • Get along with others and work as a team.
  • Exhibit the knowledge, skills, abilities, and minimum requirements listed in this Position Description.
  • Any other tasks as assigned with relevance to position, role, and licensure.
  • Requirements :

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • The employee must have a good working knowledge of DSM V, mental health assessments, crisis intervention techniques, and psychotropic medications. The employee will have access to resources and trainings to reflect on as needed.
  • Must have good oral and written communication skills and the ability to resolve conflicts in working with community agencies, multidisciplinary teams, and in dealing with the public on the hotline calls.
  • In order to perform the essential functions of this job, after an orientation period, the employee must possess the following : a working knowledge of Riveon Mental Health and Recovery Policy and Procedures, including sensitivity and adherence to clients’ rights, confidentiality, and health and safety issues.
  • Must exhibit sensitivity to different cultures.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS

  • In addition to an office setting, a significant part of the work is performed in the community during outreach, i.e., client’s home, school, shelter, emergency rooms, etc.
  • Because of the variety of environments and physical conditions that will be encountered, this individual must be able to successfully interact and navigate in all types of facilities and weather conditions.
  • This includes being able to walk, climb stairs, navigate changing surface conditions including wet, slippery, and icy grounds, and function in the proximity of electrical appliances, open flames and in areas with poor air quality including potentially smoke-filled rooms.
  • This individual may periodically be required to lift and / or carry up to 10 pounds.
  • Must be able to physically interact with client and others in emergency situations to prevent harm to client and others.
  • The individual in this position must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
  • Due to the extensive computer work this individual must be able to sit for extended periods of time and operate required equipment
  • REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be licensed in the State of Ohio as an LSW or LPC.
  • Two years' experience in the mental health field is encouraged but not mandatory.
  • Basic computer skills required, including familiarity with Windows and Microsoft Office.
  • The necessity for travel in this job requires that the employee possess a valid Ohio driver’s license with less than 6 points in a 36-month period, have proof of adequate personal automobile insurance, and use of a personal vehicle to travel to work. Once working, the employee will be able to utilize the on-site company vehicle.
  • Bilingual (English / Spanish speaking) a plus.
  • Experience with EHR (Electronic Health Records a plus).
