Statement of Primary Purpose
The Coordinator of Apprenticeships and Work-Based Learning is responsible for developing, coordinating, and expanding registered apprenticeship, pre-apprenticeship, and work-based learning opportunities for students in collaboration with faculty, employers, K-12 partners, and community organizations. An emphasis of this role is to expand pre-apprenticeship offerings within the Career & College Promise (CCP) program in collaboration with high school partners, ensuring high school students have structured pathways that lead seamlessly into college-level apprenticeships and career opportunities.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and manage apprenticeship, pre-apprenticeship, and work-based learning programs aligned with state and federal guidelines, including NCWorks Apprenticeship standards.
Collaborate with CCP staff, faculty, and K-12 school districts to integrate pre-apprenticeship opportunities that transition students into college programs and registered apprenticeships.
Coordinate employer agreements, program registration, and compliance with state and federal apprenticeship requirements.
Assist faculty in embedding apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship pathways into academic curricula and career clusters.
Cultivate and maintain strong partnerships with local business, industry, and community organizations to identify workforce needs and align apprenticeship / pre-apprenticeship opportunities.
Recruit and support employers to serve as partners for both high school pre-apprenticeships and adult apprenticeship programs.
Provide outreach presentations to high schools, community organizations, and employers to expand program awareness and participation.
Match students with appropriate pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship experiences, ensuring structured progression from high school through college and into employment.
Maintain accurate records of program participation, outcomes, and compliance with North Carolina Community College System, and NCWorks Apprenticeship requirements.
Assist with student placement in work-based learning (WBL) assignments.
Maintain detailed, accurate records of WBL / cooperative education experiences as required for academic credit and college reporting.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
Assist with program advisory committees, career day, job fair events, and other activities for supporting student success
Minimum Qualifications
Education
Associate’s degree in a career technology or health science field, education, business, workforce development, or a related field. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Knowledge and Skills
Ability to be a team player, a problem solver, to follow complex directions, to be a multi-tasker, and must have a demonstrated ability to work independently with good judgment in decision-making.
Knowledge of apprenticeship and work-based learning models, including pre-apprenticeships.
Strong communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, K-12 partners, and employers.
Excellent follow through, attention to detail, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
Ability to work with individuals of all socio-economic, cultural, and diverse backgrounds.
At least one year of work experience.

Working Conditions and Environment
Position is based on the Jackson Campus with periodic travel to other SCC locations (in Macon and Swain County), as well as to work based learning employers in Jackson, Macon and Swain Counties.
Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required.
