Overview
Position : ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT
Job Summary : Aid the job superintendent in coordinating all construction activities on the jobsite. Supervise field personnel as required. Successfully complete construction projects safely, on schedule, and within budget while maintaining conformance to design drawings, specifications, and standards.
Responsibilities
The Assistant Superintendent will be instructed by the Job Superintendent and other members that may include the Project Manager and General Superintendent on the scope of work along with a review of the drawings and specifications. Ensure you understand your work areas, drawing details and specifications associated with your assignment.
Understand the document control procedures used for the project and how revisions will be alerted and transmitted.Become familiar with the progress schedule and pay particular attention to your work assignment schedules.Manpower RequirementsDetermine crew sizes needed for your work areas, and the availability of workers and resources for manning the job.
Consult with your Superintendent on the forces needed and procedures for recruitment.Be aware of wage rates, work schedules and overtime requirements.Ensure new hires have been drug tested and have the required safety training prior to beginning work.Receiving and StorageReceive, unload, and store all Company and Owner furnished materials within our scope of work.
Follow manufacturer's guidelines on storage and protection of specialty items.Turn in all packing and shipping tickets to the jobsite office daily.Turn over shipping documents for Owner furnished items to their site representative and document as such.Perform a visual inspection on all inspection items to determine damage, shortage or quality of the item.Make piece counts where reasonable and note them.Before unloading items, review a list, purchase order, etc. to confirm correct products and quantities received.Inspection and DocumentationBe responsible for the quality and accuracy of the work assigned, regardless of whether a QC person is on site.
Specific duties will be assigned by the Job Superintendent with the assistance of the QC Officer (if onsite), but day-to-day quality is the primary duty of the Superintendents.Follow Company Checklists and note them on all work normally performed. Checklists for Excavation, Backfill, Piling, Concrete, Steel Erection and Millwright work are contained in the manual.Inspect subcontractor work in addition to their individual quality control program.Review contract drawings and specifications daily for conformance.Review the CCC Construction Manual as part of the guidelines for inspection and subcontractor performance; the manual may be on site and checklists can be copied and documented for subcontractor work.Safety RequirementsSafe working conditions for personnel is a key part of the total Quality Control Program and will be enforced by all supervisory personnel on the jobsite.
Conformance to Continental's program as well as OSHA requirements will be part of the Assistant Superintendent's duties.When working as a Subcontractor or under others, discuss rules and regulations with the Supervisory team and the Client to ensure agreement on the rules we work under.Equipment MaintenanceEnforce daily safety checks and scheduled maintenance of tools and construction equipment under the Assistant Superintendent's supervision.
Ensure operators are certified for the equipment they operate.Verify proper use of tools and safety equipment before use by the employee.Examine load charts, anti-two-blocks, matting, outrigger supports and rigging before lifting is commenced.Ensure hydraulic leaks are repaired and spills are cleaned up properly.Assignments & CommunicationYour Job Supervisor will assign specific duties for implementation and supervision. Instruct foremen and key personnel on tasks and methods to be followed.
Review the work areas on the drawings and specifications with foremen before work begins.Review testing requirements, submittal approvals, inspection service requirements, excavation plan and known hazards with foremen.Document your activities as part of your responsibilities.Employment Details : Full-time position, benefits, hourly or salary pay.
Qualifications
Knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials and supplies used in heavy construction work.Ability to read and comprehend design drawings.Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions.Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.Ability to travel and work overtime (may include nights and weekends).Must be at least 18 years of age, pass drug screen and background check.Physical Requirements
