Position Summary
The Garden Refuge is seeking Clinical Mental Health Counselors to help lead our team of committed professionals. Our Counselors will provide direct clinical counseling services to clients, including assessment, treatment planning for individual, couple and group therapy. The ideal candidates will demonstrate strong clinical judgment, trauma-informed practices, and the ability to contribute to a collaborative team environment. Preference will be given to clinicians with supervisory experience and clinicians with an openness to training in and implementing evidence-informed treatments. One of the long term goals of the Garden Refuge is to create an innovative place where best practices and specialized training are valued, supported and emphasized. This is an opportunity to help shape the overall direction of the Garden Refuge Counseling Center. The long term goal is to be an effective training center for the next generation of mental health counselors in Illinois, with an emphasis on cost-effectively meeting the needs of underserved populations.
Key Responsibilities
Provide high-quality counseling services, including intake assessments, individual and group therapy, treatment planning, and crisis intervention.
Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with professional and organizational standards.
Collaborate with other team members, community partners, and referral sources to ensure holistic client care.
Apply trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and evidence-based practices in all client interactions.
Contribute to program development and organizational initiatives that strengthen client outcomes.
Provide clinical guidance and supervision to counseling interns or provisionally licensed counselors (if assigned).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of current counseling theories, techniques, and evidence-based practices.
Strong understanding of trauma-informed care, cultural humility, and ethical decision-making.
Ability to build rapport and maintain professional boundaries with diverse client populations.
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of best supervisory practices within the counseling profession, including fostering professional growth, modeling ethical practice, and delivering constructive feedback.
Ability to balance clinical responsibilities with supervisory and organizational duties.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
Current Illinois licensure as a clinical mental health counselor (LCPC, LMFT, LCSW) required.
Clinical supervisory experience preferred.

Compensation and Benefits
Competitive salary commensurate with experience. We use a fee for service productivity model of W2 employees, not 1090s.
