Accountant II Position
The County of Riverside's Assessor/Clerk Recorder Department is currently recruiting for an Accountant II position assigned to the Support Services Division, located in Riverside.
This position performs professional-level accounting work involving financial analysis, budget development, and fiscal oversight in support of departmental operations. The Accountant II works independently on complex accounting assignments and provides analytical support related to budgets, costs, rates, and fees.
Essential duties and responsibilities include:
- Perform bank reconciliations and ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
- Develop and analyze budgets, including forecasting and variance analysis.
- Process and oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable (A/P and A/R) activities.
- Prepare and maintain cost models, including analysis of rates and fees.
- Conduct financial analysis to support management decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with County policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
- Prepare financial reports and provide recommendations based on analytical findings.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Desired qualifications include:
- Experience using the following systems and tools: Sherpa, Simpler, Microsoft 365, including Excel, Power BI, and PowerPoint.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to interpret financial data and present findings clearly to executives.
- Experience in a governmental or public-sector accounting environment is highly desirable.
Minimum qualifications include:
Option I: Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in accounting, or another field of study that included at least 18 semester or 27 quarter units in accounting, finance, auditing, taxation, financial reporting, business finance, financial statement analysis, or external and internal reporting, or closely related coursework. (One year of experience as a professional accountant with the County of Riverside may substitute for the 18 semester or 27 quarter units of specialized coursework.) Experience: One year of professional level accounting experience equivalent to a County of Riverside Accountant I classification.
Option II: Certificate: Possession of a valid certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor. Experience: One year of professional level accounting experience equivalent to a County of Riverside Accountant I classification.
All options: Knowledge of accounting principles and practices; principles and procedures of governmental accounting; general business law and budgeting methods; principles of good office management and effective supervision; computerized data processing. Ability to analyze data and draw logical conclusions; maintain records and prepare accounting, statistical, and narrative reports; supervise the work of others; establish and maintain effective working relationships; communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
