POSITION DESCRIPTION
SPEECH ASSISTANT
CLASSIFICATION : Non-Exempt
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES :
The speech assistant is responsible for delivering direct speech services to students under the supervision and license of an SLP. This individual also collects data to note student progress and creates suggestions for speech language goals.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
- B.S. Communication Disorders or related field or has sufficient training and experience to be considered an SLA as required by Board of Speech / Language Pathologist License.
- The Licensure Board allows the SLA's to work under the supervision and license of an SLP providing they have minimum of 2 years training through an associate's degree program or equivalent training as verified by the SLP who supervises the SLA.
- Adept at learning reporting systems such as NHSEIS and Medicaid tracking systems
- Ability to manage and work with children ranging from ages 3 to 21
- High degree of discretion and confidentially
REPORTS TO : Speech Language Pathologist, Building Principal, and Director of Student Services with evaluation in accordance with District and Board Policy
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY : This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
Provide direct services to students as assigned by the SLP in individual and group therapy settings in and out of the classroom.Conduct screenings as directed by the SLPAttend consultations, parent conferences in addition to or in place of SLP to gather data pertinent to the progress or services for the SLP to provide and supervise.Provide input to the SLP based on direct interactions with students, notes of informal observation / data collected / screenings conducted as requested by the SLP.Participate in training, orientation and in-service as requested by the SLP and building principal to implement their responsibilities. Examples include teaching strategies, IEP monitoring.Contact parents as assigned by SLP for follow up.Assist with the development and implementation of Assistive Technology and programs including monitoring and maintaining equipment.Maintain records as assigned by SLP who has overall responsibility for the student. Tasks include filing, note taking, scheduling meetings, data collection, clerical tasks, computer skills, maintaining caseload lists. Prepare clinical materials.Word process / edit IEP's and reports.Submit services for Medicaid to Schools reimbursementAssist in the coordination of services for students by gathering and dissemination of information.OTHER DUTIES :
