Position Introduction / Key Duties

Cimarron is seeking a Facilities Mechanical Engineer to support a classified program in Springfield, VA. In this role, you will lead the design, maintenance, and configuration management of building mechanical systems across mission-critical facilities. This position offers the opportunity to apply deep technical expertise and creative problem-solving to ensure the reliability, efficiency, and sustainability of essential infrastructure.

Key Duties :

  • Lead mechanical design and development efforts from concept through production.
  • Create and review AutoCAD design documents, submittals, and site-specific specifications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams-including electrical, systems, software, and manufacturing-to ensure mechanical designs meet all functional and environmental requirements.
  • Conduct engineering analyses to validate mechanical designs under operational conditions.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive site documentation.
  • Troubleshoot design and maintenance issues; recommend and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, energy standards, and industry regulations.

Required / Desired Skills, Experience, and Education

Required Skills, Experience, and Education :

  • Due to facility security requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for consideration at this time.
  • Active TS / SCI Clearance with CI Polygraph (or higher).
  • This position requires access to federal facilities. Candidates must possess a valid, unexpired Real ID-compliant driver's license or state-issued identification card at the time of hire. If you are unsure whether your ID is Real ID-compliant, please check for the star symbol in the upper portion of your driver's license or state ID.
  • 8 or more years of experience in mechanical system design, including HVAC and plumbing, for commercial, industrial, or government facilities.
  • Strong working knowledge of building codes, energy standards, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Proven ability to perform heating and cooling load calculations, ductwork sizing / layout, piping system design, and equipment selection.
  • Demonstrated expertise in CAD tools such as AutoCAD.
  • Experience developing mechanical systems for commercial HVAC applications.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders, contractors, and regulatory authorities.
  • Familiarity with Facility Management Control Systems (FMCS).
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain licensure within one year of hire.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.

    • Additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
