Distribution Center Reserve Department Manager

The Paper Store is a family owned and operated chain of specialty gift stores in the Northeast and Florida. The Paper Store Distribution Center (DC) supports all store locations with timely product replenishment and online customer order fulfillment. The DC is seeking individuals that thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, enjoy learning new responsibilities, and seek to capitalize on opportunities for personal and professional development.

Position Overview : The Paper Store is in search of a dynamic individual to lead the Reserve Replenishment Department at the distribution center in Leominster, MA. The successful candidate is someone with a demonstrated commitment to building a strong, inclusive employee culture, with an emphasis on development. This leader is a collaborative partner with individuals at all levels of the organization. They are solution-oriented and results-driven to achieve performance objectives, to modify or create processes that improve efficiency, and to provide world class service to retail locations. This position reports to the Distribution Center General Manager.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Be a TPS Brand Ambassador
  • Contribute to The Paper Store’s commitment to providing a positive associate culture by modeling ethical behavior, fostering open communication, and maintaining confidential information as required.
  • Lead the daily store replenishment activities of the department by setting priorities, assigning tasks, following up on progress and course correcting to meet productivity expectations.
  • Manage a diverse team of individual contributors, temporary associates, and supervisors ranging from 10 to 50 people depending on the time of year.
  • Organize and conduct daily department meetings to communicate achievements, results, safety information and goals.
  • Build a versatile department, overseeing the training of team members in all functions within the department and facilitating the opportunity to cross train in other departments.
  • Assess all team members through the annual performance review process and quarterly succession planning.
  • Develop associates through regular one-on-one meetings, goal setting and follow up, training plans, and exposure to assignments with increasing responsibility.
  • With the General Manager and Human Resources Manager’s guidance, develop the competencies of future leaders to build management bench strength to meet the future leadership needs of the business.
  • Partner with leadership throughout the business to create strategic solutions, enhance productivity to achieve departmental / organizational goals.
  • Maintain output timeliness and accuracy within all department functions, ensuring the correct product is sent to stores at the correct time.
  • Manage inventory through regular department / building walks, location management, inventory audits, and quality control training and follow up.
  • Track department supplies, maximizing efficient use and cost-savings, and ordering accordingly.
  • Determine labor and production needs based on incoming and outgoing product plans by quarter, month, and week.
  • Utilize supply chain software such as Aptos, to plan the daily workload, manage production / priorities and troubleshooting issues.
  • Prepare for and participate in daily resource meetings and periodic leadership meetings throughout the year.
  • Comply with the DC dress code, with professional attire, appearance, and demeanor.
  • Perform management functions as expected. This includes but is not limited to opening and closing the building, ensuring the wellbeing and safety of all associates and company assets, adjusting work schedule to meet the needs of the business and to fulfill position expectations.
  • Complete all other tasks assigned by senior leaders.
  • Job Requirements :

  • Respect for and adherence to local ordinances, including but not limited to noise ordinances limiting the loading, unloading, and operating shipping and delivery trucks to specific time periods each day.
  • Have a positive attitude and be self-motivated.
  • 3+ years of distribution center and replenishment management experience.
  • The ability to successfully adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong commitment to working collaboratively with all levels within an organization.
  • Great attention to detail.
  • Sound judgement, with demonstrated ability to make decisions in the best interest of all parties.
  • Proven ability to assess and develop the talent and potential of associates and department leaders.
  • Ability to prioritize and work well under pressure in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in WMS, Microsoft Office Suite, and inventory planning tools.
  • Availability and willingness to work a flexible schedule around major holidays, including the months of September through December.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds and push / pull 75 pounds while using appropriate safety techniques.
  • Ability to climb up and down ladders.
  • Ability to stand / walk for 8+ hours.
  • Ability to commute to the Leominster, MA Distribution Center for every scheduled shift.
