About This Position :
As a Critical Care Paramedic, you will be a vital part of our emergency medical team, providing essential care to critically ill and injured patients during both helicopter and ambulance transports. Under the guidance of our medical control physicians, your expertise will make a significant difference in emergency situations. You will report directly to the Operations Managers and may receive functional supervision from the VP Director, AVP Clinical Operations, and Medical Director. Please note that you must maintain a weight not exceeding 250 pounds while in gear.
In this demanding role, you will be exposed to extreme temperatures, vibrations, and altitude, requiring you to stand for extended periods and physically lift patients along with necessary medical equipment. Your superb communication skills will be essential as you interact through aircraft headsets, radios, and telephones with patients, physicians, and staff during daily patient care and emergency scenarios.
Key Responsibilities :
- Deliver expert patient care in helicopters and ambulances for various patient types, including scene work, adult subspecialties, pediatrics, and high-risk obstetrics. Assess patient care needs, prioritize interventions, and delegate tasks effectively.
- Identify and assess the needs of patients with complex medical issues. Analyze trends in patient status to plan appropriate interventions.
- Perform advanced airway techniques and treatment modalities, including oxygen therapy and advanced intubation methods, ensuring effective airway management.
- Administer pharmacologic agents and maintain intravenous fluids, monitoring patient responses and troubleshooting medical devices during transport.
- Complete various clinical duties such as tube insertions and initiating venous access, while maintaining meticulous patient records and documentation.
- Ensure program readiness by maintaining equipment and supplies, checking helicopter and ambulance readiness daily.
- Maintain effective radio communication with the MedSTAR Communications Center and partner agencies, adhering to regulatory protocols.
- Contribute to safety operations during transport activities, assisting with helicopter safety training as necessary.
- Evaluate and document risks related to transport and daily operations.
- Assist in orienting new team members to their roles in air and ground transport.
Minimum Qualifications :
Education : High School Diploma or GED required, with an approved Paramedic course completed.Experience : Minimum of 3 years as an NREMT-P, with strong field experience in a high acuity EMS system preferred.Licenses and Certifications : NREMT-Paramedic, District of Columbia Paramedic license (within 30 days), Maryland Paramedic license, and Virginia Paramedic license preferred. CPR, ACLS, PALS, and PHTLS certifications required, along with advanced trauma certifications to be completed within specified timelines. Valid state driver’s license in good standing required.This position has a hiring range of : USD $32.90 - USD $55.26 / Hr.
