Lifeguard

Lifeguards are responsible for guarding the lives of pool patrons through effective pool surveillance, scanning, rule enforcement, and responding to emergencies. The Lifeguard works and communicates with other WAFC employees, professional staff, pool patrons, and the general public.

Essential duties and responsibilities include :

• Maintains a presence with proper apparel and equipment.
• Provides for safety of the public by maintaining an alert and ready position while scanning and is prepared to act in an emergency.
• Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in identified zones.
• Understands and able to demonstrate proper water safety principles.
• Provides necessary emergency response care and treatment.
• Follows proper Lifeguard change procedures.
• Enforces rules in a polite, firm, consistent manner.
• Follows and enforces the policies and procedures outlined in the Aquatics Manual.
• Has knowledge of the emergency action plan.
• Provides necessary saves, first aid and / or CPR and AED use according to established procedures.
