Job description

Deputy Division Leader (Manufacturing Manager 5)

The Pit Technologies Division will hire a Deputy Division Leader (Manufacturing Manager 5) that will focus on an area of Production, Human Capital, Engineering, or Planning. Reporting to the Pit Technologies Division Leader, the Deputy Division Leader provides leadership in the focus area to the Division. The Deputy Division Leader will function as a key part of the division management team that has the responsibilities for proper work authorization, quality assurance practices, human resource management, recruiting, and continuing development of division capabilities. The Deputy Division Leader is expected to take a significant role in leadership and strategic planning efforts for the division, as well as interfacing with partner organizations across the Laboratory. Duties include but are not limited to the following :

  • Providing effective leadership to enable the workforce to succeed in division milestones and deliverables
  • Maintaining and strengthening the division's scientific and technical base by participating in the development and programmatic direction for the division
  • Working with the division leader, group leaders and program managers to ensure effective line and program planning and integration
  • Leading the division in the production of metrics, utilizing them to manage the production operations to become more effective and efficient
  • Leading the production and reporting of the division's budget including performance against targets, milestone completion, and preparation of future fiscal year work packages
  • Identifying and acting on opportunities to influence direction, policy and vision, both internal and external to the organization
  • Determining and promoting long-range goals to ensure that the division performs at the highest standards relevant to national security
  • Developing and leading the implementation of a Human Capital strategy for hiring and retaining qualified staff
  • Maintaining a positive work environment and mentoring and developing personnel
  • Recruiting and retaining critical skills in the workforce
  • Promoting and enforcing laboratory policy in all areas such as work, quality, and human resource management, affirmative action, ES&H, security, and community relations

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements :

Knowledge and Expertise :

  • Demonstrated technical and manufacturing accomplishments and expertise in one or more of the division's core capabilities, or a closely related scientific or engineering field
  • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in the 6.X process, demonstrated experience in working with design agencies (DA) and production agencies (PA) in the nuclear weapons complex.
  • Demonstrated commitment to scientific excellence, environment, health and safety, security, diversity, and employee development
  • Leadership :

  • Successful experience in leading a management team in organizational strategic planning initiatives to include establishing, monitoring, and reporting on performance metrics
  • Demonstrated experience leading a multidisciplinary group of scientists, engineers, technicians, students and professional staff in a technical environment
  • Demonstrated excellence in the leadership and management of technical projects and staff, that includes a record of successful teamwork and consensus building within and across organizational boundaries.
  • Proven ability to identify, secure and lead programs, obtain and allocate resources and deliver within scope, schedule and budget
  • Nuclear Environment :

  • Expert knowledge of safety and security, environmental and quality regulatory requirements needed to manage work in a nuclear and / or high explosives facility
  • Business Acumen :

  • Demonstrated experience leading business operations to include financial, human resources, procurement, and other related business activities
  • Education / Experience :

  • Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 12 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
  • DOE 426.2 Order : Requires a BS degree, and four years of nuclear experience.
  • Desired Qualifications :

  • Demonstrated experience with nuclear materials management, as well as nuclear or radiological facility operations
  • Broad knowledge of laboratory programs and technical organizations
  • Master's degree preferred in chemistry, materials science, engineering or a related science, with 6 years of related experience.
  • Active DOE Q-Clearance and HRP certification
  • Work Location :

    The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

    Position Commitment :

    Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

  • Additional Details :

    Directive 206.2 : Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

    Clearance : Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

    Eligibility requirements : To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

    HRP : This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, 712.11. These requirements include ongoing drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.

    426.2 : This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.

    New-Employment Drug Test : The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

    Regular Position : Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

    Internal Applicants : Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the required period of continuous service, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader.
