Finance And Accounting Manager, Texas Engineering Executive Education
The Financial Manager oversees all financial and accounting operations for Texas Engineering Executive Education (TxEEE), the self-sustaining continuing professional engineering education (CPEE) unit within the Cockrell School of Engineering at UT Austin. As a key member of the TxEEE leadership team, this position is responsible for the day-to-day management of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and purchasing, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting and support for TxEEE's programs, events, and operations.
This role supports three professional engineering master's programs (Option III), a suite of stackable graduate certifications, as well as a portfolio of open enrollment and custom short coursesincluding PETEX-branded offerings and programs run by the Health and Safety Training Center (HSTC).
The Financial Manager supervises assigned staff and is responsible for developing and maintaining financial policies, procedures, and internal controls that comply with the Cockrell School of Engineering and university guidelines, as well as generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). This includes managing the annual budgeting process and working with the Executive Director and TxEEE leadership in creating and overseeing the preparation of actionable financial reporting and analyses.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Financial Manager works closely with the TxEEE leadership team to monitor the unit's financial performance, support strategic planning, and implement process improvements that enhance efficiencies and the unit's long-term financial sustainability.
Responsibilities
Operational Support and Oversight :
Responsible for managing timely payment and procurement processing, tracking of deposits, invoices, procard vouchers and reconciliation, purchase orders, wire transfers, interdepartmental transactions, reimbursements (e.g. travel authorizations and reimbursements), and contracts and service agreements.
Ensures compliance with internal controls and financial regulations
Develops and oversees risk management strategies.
Budgeting & Financial Planning :
Manages the annual budgeting process, ensuring alignment with college, University, and organizational goals and strategies.
Prepare and review budgets for unit initiatives and external proposals.
Monitor financial performance to budget and recommend corrective actions as needed.
Financial Reporting and Analysis :
In collaboration and partnership with TxEEE leadership and Cockrell's Business Affairs Office (BAO), creating and overseeing the preparation of actionable financial statements, reports, and analysis.
Ensures the accuracy and timely delivery of financial data.
Analyzes financial data and performance and provides insights for decision-making; makes informed financial decisions and ensures financial integrity.
Account Oversight and Reconciliation :
Monitor account balances, expenditures, and encumbrances.
Oversees the reconciliation of accounts.
Request new accounts.
Team Leadership and Development :
Supervises and develops team members.
Provides direction, motivation, and mentorship to finance staff and assigned student workers.
Fosters a collaborative and high-performing team environment, leading by example.
Infrastructure and Facilities Support :
Supports responsible staff with managing facilities space allocation and physical inventory. This includes ensuring compliance with records retention requirements and the management of the electronic scanning / archiving function.
Other related functions as assigned
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and five years of responsible level experience in finance, accounting and / or budgeting; or Master's degree and two years of above experience
At least five years of management experience within a large organization
Proven ability to prioritize responsibilities and manage concurrent projects, while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Self-starter with strong problem-solving abilities and exceptional organizational skills.
Robust analytical skills with ability to translate complex data into simple, understandable information that can drive action.
Ability to meet overlapping deadlines in a fast-paced office environment.
Excellent interpersonal, oral communication, and writing skills.
Proven ability to work both independently and within a team, fostering effective relationships in a collegial environment.
Demonstrated ability to work with confidential information using tact and discretion.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge and experience working in an academic environment, and familiarity with engineering programs. More than five years of administrative work experience.
Accounting and / or financial experience at UT Austin, or a university environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, database, and relevant UT accounting applications. This includes experience with DEFINE, MISHELL, FRMS, Workday business processes, Docusign, Smartsheet, and Quickbooks
Familiarity and knowledge of UT policies and procedures and an understanding of university organization and resources
Salary Range
$70,000 + depending on qualifications

Standard work hours are Monday-Friday 8 : 00 a.m. to 5 : 00 p.m., with flexible work arrangements considered
