SUMMARY

The Model Maker / Technician supports in-house new product development by creating a wide range of complex components and systems. Fabricates and sets up test figures and performs the necessary tests of various HVAC components / assemblies. Assists with Manufacturing and Engineering as required. Participate actively and quickly in the development process, to build and test prototypes correctly and on time with thorough understanding of mechanical tooling design of a technical nature. Must have the ability to read engineering drawings and describe required changes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Constructs complex precision prototype components and models from raw stock materials to engineering specifications by operating all manual machining equipment as well as all computerized equipment.
  • Applies knowledge and skills to complete a wide range of tasks such as prototype models and fixtures for assembly, assembling test set-ups and perform hands-on test engineering assignments of average complexity to obtain required data and results.
  • Plans and meet timelines for manufacturing production schedules and R&D scheduled objectives
  • Works on assignments that are moderately difficult, requiring judgment in resolving issues or in making recommendations to associates for various reasons.
  • Marks-up Pro / e part drawings as required based on fit-up and assembly and communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Defines, evaluates and develops test tools and methods as well as influence process improvement efforts.
  • Record test data and prepare charts and graphs of results, analyze the data for accuracy, interpret results and prepare summary or reports as directed.
  • Operate machines, such as lathes, drill presses, or band saws, to fabricate prototypes or models.
  • Participates in team modeling efforts to achieve working prototype instruments components to meet specifications.
  • Verifies dimensional accuracy and functionality of components / assemblies.
  • Recommends optimum manufacturing approach for prototypes.
  • Adheres to and carries out all activities in accordance with all applicable SOP’s and safety standards.

OTHER REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Must be able to braze aluminum, copper, brass, steel and weld aluminum, steel, stainless steel.
  • Ability to maintain a consistent record of attendance and punctuality.
  • General understanding of operation of mechanical and electrical devices.
  • General knowledge of HVAC components, systems and controls.
  • Exhibit good initiative and problem-solving techniques.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma / Journeyman License (Machinist / Toolmaker / model maker). Equivalent experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 5-10 Years of Machining and Model Making experience.
  • Knowledge and application of all machining, tool building and prototyping methodologies including CAD / CAM.
  • Skills / Competencies :
  • Manufacturing methods / mathematics, materials

  • Ability to read and interpret procedure manuals.
  • Basic ability to use computer hardware and software.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Individuals may need to sit or stand as needed and may require walking primarily on a level surface for a significant amount of the day (>

    8 hours). This position requires frequent reaching with occasional reaching above shoulder heights. May be occasionally required to lift up to 30 lbs. unassisted throughout the workday. Proper lifting techniques required.

    This position may also require excellent eyesight to identify colors, depth, and dimension in the day-to-day work of a

    Model Maker / Technician.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    The primary work environment provides for co-worker interactions, ambient room temperature, excellent lighting, and traditional assembly line production equipment as found in a typical manufacturing environment. The area is free from oil and other disagreeable elements. Certain areas require the use of personal protective equipment such as respirators, gloves, and mandatory hearing protection. Safety glasses and closed-toed shoes are required in all manufacturing areas.
