Working with minimal supervision, the Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in all facets of store operations. Using elements of GameStop's buy, sell, trade, and reservation business model, the Assistant Store Manager develops and promotes a sales culture by creating individualized and complete solutions for every guest and providing outstanding guest service experiences through professional conduct and shared passion for gaming. You will be responsible for ensuring that products are easy to see and buy, building sales by sharing product and gaming knowledge with guests, providing a clean, organized environment in which to shop, and growing guest loyalty and repeat business. This position supervises Sales Associates and Retail Keyholders in the absence of the Store Manager.
Responsibilities
- Provide best-in-class guest service : promptly greet guests; respond to guest questions / concerns quickly, effectively, and courteously; assist guests with meeting their video gaming needs; inform guests of special promotions; recommend additional items as appropriate; apply all selling behaviors during every transaction and thank every guest for shopping at GameStop; circulate throughout the store to prioritize guests over tasks.
- Support the total shopping environment, including visual and operational elements, current sales initiatives, and the guest relationships that lead to sales and repeat business.
- Process guest purchases / returns using the POS system accurately, including handling changes, providing receipts, and ensuring top-notch service.
- Respond to guest questions in person or on the phone; escalate issues to the Store Manager when appropriate.
- Promote GameStop's guest benefits (e.g., new title reservations, trade-in program, Pro Rewards).
- Assist the Store Manager with setting guest service expectations and training store associates on company policies and procedures.
- Observe associate performance and provide feedback; ensure alignment with guest service expectations.
- Provide recognition and feedback to store associates; document performance information in the HR system in partnership with the Store Manager.
- Ensure onboarding, job training, and compliance training are completed prior to shifts; knowledge of policies, inventory control, loss prevention, safety, financial protocol, and ethics.
- Schedule store associates, manage breaks, and maintain optimal staffing for guest service.
- Approve payroll, manage paid time off, and verify time worked.
- Maintain store cleanliness, organization, and merchandising per guidelines; ensure equipment is in proper working order.
- Fulfill Omni-Channel orders daily.
- Protect company assets through inventory controls and loss prevention; inspect packages at closing as appropriate and report concerns to the Store Manager.
- Support the team in meeting sales, profit, and shrink goals; perform required administrative duties.
- Assist with inventory counts and replenishment; keep products organized and properly displayed.
- Count, balance, and reconcile daily transactions; ensure accurate closeout paperwork and bank deposits as per guidelines.
- Verify shipments for discrepancies and conduct inventories; communicate discrepancies to the Store Manager / District Manager.
- Handle defectives / recalls and stock pulls promptly and accurately; label boxes and packing lists correctly.
- Maintain safety awareness for associates and guests; address hazards and report injuries per guidelines.
- Assist in maintaining store records and keep manuals up to date.
- Supervise and delegate tasks to Sales Associates and Retail Keyholders in the Store Manager's absence.
- Adhere to GameStop policies, including those in the Associate Handbook and Code of Standards, Ethics & Conduct; follow opening and closing procedures.
Qualifications
Must provide proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States; at least 18 years old.High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in business, marketing, merchandising, or related field preferred.Retail management experience (preferred : 6 months) and retail sales / guest service / management experience (preferred : 2+ years).Video game knowledge preferred.Outgoing, welcoming personality with strong people skills; ability to provide genuine and individualized guest assistance.Strong verbal and written communication; English; bilingual English / Spanish preferred.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; work independently and in a team; meet performance expectations and maintain safety and a respectful workplace.Operate POS system and basic math; complete required paperwork; follow instructions; flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and some holidays (minimum 3 days / week).Reliable, trustworthy, and capable of working alone; physical ability to stand / move for up to 12 hours and lift up to 30 lbs; able to reach and bend as needed.Note : Some locations on military bases may require knowledge of military ranks / insignia.Job descriptions are subject to change. Pay : $19.25 - $23.25 per hour.
