Position Title : Groundwater Modeler Position Type : Full-Time Location : Woodland, CA MODELER RESPONSIBILITIES (Knowledge in CA Groundwater) : Develop and calibrate numerical hydrologic models ranging in complexity up to basin-scale integrated hydrologic and solute transport models. Use of finite difference and / or finite element model software such as MF-OWHM, MODFLOW 6, IWFM, and related model codes. Develop and use scripts (e.g., Python, R, Matlab) to develop model input files and process and evaluate model output. Working with various types of hydrologic, engineering, and hydrogeologic data and software to develop hydrogeologic conceptual models Working in small groups to complete project tasks while also providing project management oversight, if required. Preparation of written documents and client deliverables, including technical presentations, public engagement, reports, and technical memoranda. Aquifer test data collection and analysis. Involvement and management of multiple projects simultaneously. Use of analytical solutions of common hydrogeologic problems. Modeler REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge in CA Groundwater) : B.S. degree in Geology and M.S. degree in Hydrogeology or related disciplines Minimum of 5 years of experience in consulting in California with a primary focus on groundwater or integrated hydrologic modeling. Proficient in using finite difference and finite element model codes such as MF-OWHM, MODFLOW 6, and IWFM. Fluency in the use of a scripting language such as Python, R, MATLAB, etc. Experience in the calibration of groundwater models using PEST or PEST++ software. Proficiency with the ESRI family of products to conduct spatial analysis and develop maps and figures. Experience in the development of project scope, budget, and schedules for groundwater modeling and related projects. Careful attention to detail, accuracy, and consistency, along with critical thinking skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with others, including mentoring staff and delegation of project work. Management of competing priorities and deadlines. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (Experience in CA Groundwater) : Professional Geologist or Engineer registration in California or ability to obtain within the first year of employment. Experience working in groundwater management in Central Valley groundwater subbasins. Working knowledge of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act and development and implementation of Groundwater Sustainability Plans. Proficiency in Fortran, including object-oriented code development. Experience in developing solute and reactive transport models (e.g., MT3D, RT3D, PHAST, PHT3D).
