Job Summary and Qualifications
Provides clinical support to the physician delivering patient care in an office setting. This includes taking patient histories and vital signs, preparing patient for examination, taking samples and performing simple laboratory tests, administering medications, providing assistance with procedures, and maintaining clinical areas, equipment, and supplies. Administrative responsibilities include answering telephones, scheduling appointments, maintaining files, and data entry in practice management system and Meditech.
What Will You Do In This Role
Prepares patient for examination as directed by provider. This may include updating the medical history, documenting any current symptoms, and taking height, weight, blood pressure and temperature as indicated by provider. May collect samples for testing as directed by provider.
Assists with examinations and special procedures including minor surgical procedures as directed by the provider. This includes preparation of the examination or procedure room and collection of instruments and supplies for sterilization.
Follow-up on outstanding lab reports and schedules referrals for additional tests and / or ancillary services. May perform simple laboratory tests. Keeps provider informed about any unusual findings or delays and follow-up with patient as directed.
Administers medication, injections, removes sutures, cleans wounds, and applies dressings as directed by the provider.
Accepts medically related phone calls from patients documenting detail of patients concerns and symptoms for provider review and direction. This includes handling calls regarding prescription refills, immunization records, insurance forms, and scheduling acute visits. May entail extensive follow-up.
Documents all patient related activity to the medical record including histories or updates, phone calls, follow-up communication, referrals, lab results, patient education, and any other interactions with the patient as required by policy and directed by the provider.
Maintains and stock all clinical areas of the office and ensures all instruments are cleaned, sterile, and in good repair. Works with Office Manager to identify stock needs and purchasing requirements. Complies with state regulations for ordering of state vaccine.
Delivers patient education as directed by provider regarding symptom management, wound care, and chronic conditions.
Responsible for quality control logs in practice.
Answers a multi-line phone. Schedules and confirms patients appointments according to office policy. Screens phone calls and visitors, and route messages to appropriate party.
Greets patients upon arrival and collects and enters necessary data into the computer. Monitors waiting area and keeps waiting patients informed about any delays or need to reschedule.
Completes and forwards information requested by payors including referral forms, copies of charts, records, lab results, etc., on a timely basis.
What Qualifications Will You Need
NH Medical Technician Board registration is required if not currently licensed or registered by a NH regulatory board.
CMA or RMA Certification within 3 months of hire.
Completion of a Medical Assisting Program preferred, consideration will be made for RMA's who have had extensive on the job training. Clinical rotation experience and certification preferred.
Proficiency in clinical skills to include phlebotomy, EKG, administering injections, and other required procedures.
Demonstrate proficiency in all required procedures.
Experience or training in clinical setting is required.
In addition, the incumbent should have a demonstrated capacity to work well under pressure, excellent communication skills, and good judgement in a clinical setting.
Must be prepared to rotate into all Physician Practice Services practice locations.
