GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
The 911 Public Information Specialist serves on the Leon County Emergency Management team and creates engaging and interesting content (press releases, social media posts, and other creative content), develops public relations strategy, including digital communications, and connects with community members to share emergency preparedness and resilience information and resources. Responsibilities include writing and storytelling, assisting with event planning, attending community events, leading community trainings, and collaborating with County leadership to bring ideas and programs to life. This position also assists in the operation and maintenance of the County’s emergency notification system.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
This position involves the use of independent judgment in resolving a wide range of technical issues and solving complex system-oriented problems. Deadlines and shifts in attention in this position are time critical for the support of database functions.

These position duties are generally defined and require significant independent judgment in determining work methods for the accomplishment of desired results. Employee must be autonomous.

INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CUSTOMER CONTACT
Regular contact with internal (County Admin / Emergency Management) and external customers (General Public) concerning information, resources, and training.
EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS USED
Microsoft Office Suite such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Acrobat Adobe.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is mainly performed indoors, seated in a chair at a desk, with some standing and walking. Some lifting, carrying, pushing, and / or pulling of up to 20 pounds may be necessary.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The ideal candidate possesses a versatile skill set encompassing public relations, digital communications, and volunteer management, complemented by strong leadership, creative storytelling, and strategic planning abilities. Proficiency in digital media, emergency management protocols, and the capacity to foster collaborative relationships are essential for driving effective community engagement and coordinating volunteer efforts in critical situations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Requires graduation from an accredited college or university with an Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, English, or a related field, and two years of related work experience.
Necessary Special Requirements :
Must possess a valid State of Florida Class "E" Operator's License and have a favorable driving record.
All Leon County employees (regular full-time and part-time, OPS, and PRN) are required to work before, during and after a Declared Local State of Emergency (DLSOE). Participation is considered a condition of employment.
