Job Summary and Qualifications
The staff technologist works closely with the lead technologist to coordinate the daily operations and functions of Nuclear Medicine Services. He / She is responsible for all QC / QA on equipment and patient doses. In the absence of the Lead Technologist, he / she will assume the duties of the lead technologist.
What You Will Do In This Role
Coordinate the daily patient flow and functions of Nuclear Medicine Services with the charge technologist.Assess performance of quality control procedures and documentation regarding equipment checks and calibrations on pharmaceutical tagging.Ensure proper receipt, handling and disposal of radioactive materials according to regulations and policies.Proficient in performing all exams and can assume the duties of the charge technologist in their absence.Order supplies as necessary.Be knowledgeable about departmental and RRMC policies and procedures.Assist or perform duties delegated by the charge technologist.Prepare stock solutions of radiopharmaceuticals and materials; calculate and administer doses under the direct supervision of a Radiologist.Calibrate equipment.Assess patient understanding of exam and informed consent.Perform diagnostic exams as prescribed by physician.Use scanners or scintillation cameras to detect radiation and produce images of organs.Measure radioactivity using Geiger counters and related tools.Follow radiation safety techniques and policies in the use and disposal of radioactive materials.Provide care appropriate to the condition and age of the patient (neonate, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric, general population).Assess, evaluate and inform the physician of changes in patient condition during testing.Instruct and prepare the patient for the exam and ensure care and safety during procedures.Understand contraindications and potential hazards of different labs; practice medical and surgical aseptic procedures.Take calls according to monthly schedules after regular department hours.Compile and maintain quality assurance information and interact professionally with patients and families.Demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care across specified patient groups.Communicate age-appropriate information and adjust duties as needed.Assist in pain assessment and management using age-appropriate interventions.What Qualifications You Will Need
Graduate of an accredited school of Nuclear Medicine Technology.Current Louisiana State Licensure.Current NMTCB or ARRT Certification.BCLS for Healthcare Providers within 30 days of hire.ACLS for Healthcare Providers within 30 days of hire.Rapides Regional Medical Center is a 350+ bed hospital and ER in Alexandria, Louisiana.
