Overview
WSP is seeking a Lead Structural Engineer to join their dynamic Property & Buildings team in New York, NY. Our team provides structural design consulting services for complex building projects across sectors including science / technology, healthcare, commercial construction, public safety, K-12, and higher education. This position provides high-level technical assistance and guidance for multi-site / phase due diligence, investigation, remediation, improvement, and / or construction of building projects in the public and private sector. Tasks include the research, design, concept development, planning, and construction of load-bearing structures or structural elements. Responsibilities ensure deliverables meet or exceed industry standards for design, safety, structural soundness, and functionality, with high-quality deliverables produced on time and in compliance with project-specific construction codes. Demonstrates leadership and mentors other engineers in a team-oriented environment.
Your Impact
- Apply high-level structural engineering techniques to identify improvements for project phases including concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement, construction, and operation.
- Perform professional structural engineering work and conduct research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and permits.
- Develop construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, and updated layout plans requiring coordination with owners, other disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients.
- Engage from project inception to completion in the management of design, construction, rehabilitation, and remediation of building projects.
- Incorporate advanced technologies, building materials, modeling techniques, and design requirements to ensure safety and functionality for end-users and future-ready solutions.
- Coordinate design efforts with teams of engineers, architects, planners, and other professionals to execute project work on multiple concurrent projects, including budgets, hours, expenses, task completion, quantities, permits, and construction support.
- Review and approve building design plans to ensure compliance with codes, ordinances, and regulations.
- Prepare data and visualizations (tables, charts, reports, sketches, calculations, cross-sections, 2D / 3D illustrations) for interpretation or presentation of findings.
- Prepare comprehensive structural technical reports and presentations explaining research, concepts, and recommendations.
- Analyze data from site investigations, and develop action plans for moderate- to high-level risk mitigation activities.
- Interact confidently and professionally with architects, consultants, and clients.
- Collaborate with engineers and building design professionals on Federal, State, regional, local, and private projects, including proposals and business development opportunities.
- Remain current in the latest structural engineering techniques and practices.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and policies.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.7 to 10 years of relevant post-education experience in structural design.Professional Engineer license required.Structural Engineer (SE) license required, or the ability to demonstrate that licensure can be achieved quickly.Proficiency with structural engineering principles, practices, processes, design / build, and application to project work.Knowledge and experience with building structural planning, design, and construction management, including involvement in rehabilitation, new design, and construction projects.Working knowledge of sustainability concepts and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.Well-defined knowledge of relevant structural construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.Ability to perform technical computations and interpret plans and specifications.Ability to plan and conduct inspections and investigations related to construction and design of buildings and facilities.Strong interpersonal and communication skills for both engineering and non-engineering audiences.Self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment.Ability to work independently with minimal oversight and provide leadership to junior team members, with QA / QC adherence.Proficiency with technical writing, MS Office, structural software (e.g., ETABS or RAM), BIM, and related tools.Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to apply technical knowledge to data and analyses.Experience coordinating and directing subcontractors to complete tasks safely and efficiently.Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to company health, safety, and harassment policies.Ability to work schedules that may extend beyond a typical workweek; occasional travel may be required.Preferred Qualifications

WSP provides a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, disability, life, and retirement savings. Expected Salary : $104,600 - $148,000. WSP USA reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range based on qualifications and location.
