A hospitalist nurse practitioner's job description includes providing direct patient care to hospitalized individuals by conducting comprehensive physical assessments and medical history, diagnosing acute and chronic conditions, developing individualized treatment plans, and managing their overall care throughout their stay. Key duties involve collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing medications and other therapeutic treatments as appropriate, and educating patients and their families. This role requires coordinating patient care with a multidisciplinary team, managing patient progress, and ensuring accurate and timely documentation, including progress notes, orders, and discharge summaries. This role also includes providing emergency care for unstable patient and be available for on-call duties as needed as well as participate in interdisciplinary meetings and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care.
