Role Summary :
This role provides social support and non-medical detoxification services in a community-based detoxification unit for individuals experiencing homelessness and substance use challenges. The position also offers support in other programs as assigned by the Detox Coordinator or Detox Resource Coordinator. During shifts, responsibilities include ensuring the safety and well-being of participants, maintaining accurate documentation, and managing crisis situations as needed.
Role Requirements and Preferences :
Required :
- Completion of Peer Support Specialist certification within 6 months of employment or position is forfeited.
- If HT program graduate, at least 9 months of off campus recovery completed.
- Completion of Onboarding within the first month of hire, which consists of completing a review of the policy and procedures manual, the employee handbook, review of benefits, and job shadowing or position is forfeited.
- Clean pre-employment drug test.
Preferred :
Completion of a High School Diploma or equivalent.Familiarity with the Healing Transitions service model and the recovery process.Key Competencies :

Client and Guest Assessment & MonitoringAssess the health and well-being of clients and guests at all times, including regular shelter rounds.Evaluate clients for current / recent problems, orientation level, discomfort or pain, and signs of withdrawal or intoxication per detox guidelines.Monitor for medical or psychiatric emergencies and make appropriate referrals.Assess and manage risks related to violent, self-destructive, or dangerous behaviors.Assess for presence of illegal drugs and dispose of them per agency guidelines.???? Intake, Documentation & Records ManagementEnsure clients and guests complete and sign all required intake documentation (e.g., Consent for Treatment, Client Rights, HMIS, VI-SPDAT).Complete Intake Form, Medical, Substance Use, and Psychosocial assessments with client participation.Take client photographs for detox records.Maintain accurate and confidential client and guest records (e.g., detox files, shelter cards, rosters).Complete Property and Medication Receipt Logs and related forms for personal belongings and prescriptions.Oversee check-in procedures including bed assignments, searches, and storage of property (e.g., medications, cell phones, weapons).???? Orientation & SupportIntroduce and orient clients and guests to the detox center or shelter.Provide guests with pertinent resources and information (e.g., resource packets, meeting sheets).Spend time listening to guests, offering support, and connecting them with resources as needed.Conduct at least one weekly shelter meeting to review guidelines and expectations.???? Logistics & CoordinationTransport participants from pick-up locations to the shelter daily.Coordinate chores, kitchen and laundry volunteers, meeting attendance, and meal transportation.Coordinate after-hours referrals from law enforcement, community providers, or first-time guests.Maintain accurate inventory of items issued to overnight guests (e.g., towels, blankets).Complete checklists to ensure chores are done, belongings are stored / removed, and maintenance issues are noted.???? Communication & CollaborationCollaborate with on-duty staff and utilize On-Call support for decision-making.Communicate guest issues across shifts and departments via email, shelter notes, and incident reports.✅ General Responsibilities

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as rescue equipment, computers, vital equipment, surveillance monitors, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and / or humid outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Physical Demands :
This role requires regular communication, both speaking and listening. Frequent tasks include sitting, reaching, and handling objects, while occasional activities involve standing, walking, bending, kneeling, or crouching. Employees may need to lift or move items over 30 pounds.
Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, as well as the ability to adjust focus. Employees must maintain CPR certification and be physically capable of performing CPR and overdose reversals in emergencies.

Language Requirements :
English is the primary language of software, documents, participants, and staff of HT, though speaking additional languages is a valuable asset. Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret common documents; the ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from participants, or members of the community; and the ability to effectively present information to top management and public groups.
Travel Requirements :
There may be mandatory meetings and / or trainings that take place on another campus or location. You are required to travel to the appropriate location at these times.
