ABOUT THE POSITION
The Logistics Intern will support the logistics team in executing daily operational tasks, analyzing data, and improving processes. This role provides hands-on experience in supply chain and transportation management while contributing to the company’s goal of delivering products efficiently and cost-effectively. The intern will work closely with cross-functional teams and gain exposure to industry’s best practices.
LOCATION : This is an onsite position in Chattanooga, TN. Typically, 20-24 hours per week, which can be flexible around a class schedule.
Key Deliverables
- Assist in coordinating shipments and tracking delivery status.
- Support preparation and review of logistics documentation.
- Contribute data analysis and reporting for logistics performance metrics.
- Provide timely updates to internal stakeholders on shipment progress.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings.
- Develop foundational knowledge of transportation modes, Incoterms, and freight audit processes.
- Investigate and respond to inquiries regarding distribution of products.
Key Activities & Responsibilities
Help schedule and monitor freight movements across multiple carriers.Prepare and maintain accurate shipping records and documentation.Assist with rate comparisons and vendor communications.Participate in team meetings and contribute to problem-solving discussions.Support invoice validation and cost analysis for transportation services.Learn and apply concepts related to freight audit and pay, transportation modes (LTL, FTL, ocean, air), and Incoterms.Maintain confidentiality and follow company policies and safety guidelines.Collaborate with other departments (Sales, Production, Engineering) as needed.Manage any claims that result from damage, delays or charges related to the transportation of equipment.Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.Maintain the highest degree of honesty and integrity at all times.Protect confidential information by not communicating, disclosing to, or using for benefit of third parties.Follow company policies and procedures at all times.Follow proper safety rules and procedures at all times.To be successful in this role, your experience and competencies are :
Education : Currently pursuing a degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, or related field.Skills : Strong organizational and analytical skills; proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).Competencies : Ability to manage multiple tasks, work under deadlines, and communicate effectively.Attributes : Detail-oriented, proactive, and eager to learn; demonstrates integrity and teamwork.Learning Outcomes :Understand freight audit and payment processes.Gain knowledge of transportation modes and their applications.Learn Incoterms and their impact on international trade.Develop analytical skills for evaluating freight costs and performance metrics.Build familiarity with logistics documentation and compliance requirements.Our Culture and Values
