ABOUT YOU Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education: Successful completion of the Police Academy is required. An A.A./A.S. degree is desirable. Military service and relevant training may also be considered.
Experience: Successful completion of probation as a sworn law enforcement officer in the State of California.
License or Certificate: Possession of, or eligibility for, the California POST Basic Certificate is required.
Out-of-state Peace Officers applying for this position must provide proof of successful completion of the Basic POST Course Waiver process with their application.
Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment.
Other:Police Officer candidates must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age at the time of appointment; must be legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law; must be able to successfully complete a thorough background investigation and successfully meet the job dimension criteria as recommended by POST.
Spanish bilingual skills are highly desirable.
Incumbents must successfully complete the Vacaville Police Department Field Training Program as a condition of continued employment.

Part-time positions are paid an hourly rate and can work up to a maximum of 129 hours per month. Part-time positions are at-will, are not eligible for health or retirement benefits (including CalPERS membership), and do not accrue leave time with the exception of state mandated sick leave (40 hours per year).
Part-time positions are not covered by Social Security and are not eligible for the City of Vacaville's retirement plan through CalPERS and are therefore required to make 7.5% pre-tax contributions into a qualified plan under the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1990 (OBRA). For the City of Vacaville, the plan is a Section 457 Deferred Compensation Plan through Nationwide Retirement Systems, Inc.
