Sworn Police Officer
This position performs as a Sworn Officer, primarily responsible for City Hall and Courtroom security. On occasion, this position provides assistance with City Events. This position is limited to 29 hours per pay period (weekly).
Major duties include :
- Primary duty assignment to City Hall and City Court with occasional assignments for City Events.
- Required : Peace Officer certification through the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (GA POST).
- Transports inmates while performing Court security functions.
- Performs daily security checks of assigned areas to include courtrooms, holding areas, and adjacent areas before openings and court proceedings.
- Assists with securing detainees, as well as responding to emergency situations in or around Lawrenceville City Hall.
- Maintains security-screening checkpoints which includes the operation of x-ray machines and metal detectors.
- Handles arraignment and other court calendars as necessary.
- Completes reports and other written assignments as directed by supervisor.
- Works with and backs up other officers and agencies.
- Performs related duties.

The purpose of this position is to protect life and property and enforce federal, state, and local laws. Successful performance contributes to the detection and deterrence of crime and to the protection of life and property.
Contacts are typically with co-workers, other city employees, other emergency service providers, court system personnel, attorneys, judges, medical personnel, law enforcement officers from other agencies, and the general public.
The work is performed indoors, in a vehicle, and outdoors. The employee may be exposed to inclement weather, infectious diseases, and life-threatening situations. The work requires the use of protective clothing and devices.
Minimum qualifications include :
Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship / internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.Current certification through the Police Standards and Training Council for the State of Georgia.Qualifications include :
