Job Description\n

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Med / Surg unit night shift position requiring a current IL RN license and proficiency in telemetry, rapid response, and Cerner EMR.

\n \n Responsibilities\n

  • Work in the Neuro Med / Surg unit of an acute care hospital
  • Level II Trauma Center with an average daily census of 32 patients
  • Night shift schedule with options for 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts (18 : 00-06 : 30)
  • Required to work every other weekend
  • Floating within scope to similar units as needed
  • Patient population includes neuro and med / surg cases such as CVA, pre / post neuro surgery, spinal cord injuries, and trauma brain injuries
  • Handles medical, surgical, cardiac, neurological, gastrointestinal, IV, psychiatric, and respiratory cases
  • Uses Cerner for charting
  • Role includes patient care involving isolation precautions and wound vac management
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Parking permit is provided at no cost
  • Hospital uses royal blue scrubs
  • Teaching hospital and Level II trauma experience preferred
  • Up to 5 days of requested time off will be considered
  • Local candidates are accepted without a radius restriction

  • Active IL RN license required at time of application
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Med / Surg and neuro nursing experience
  • Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
  • Experience with telemetry and remote cardiac monitoring
  • Experience in rapid response team, colostomy and feeding tube care, central and peripheral lines, blood product administration, starting IVs, and surgical drains
  • Proficiency with common medications including Heparin, Insulin, and PCA
  • Skill in trach management, chest tubes (Emerson / Pleur-evac), CPAP / BiPAP, non-invasive airway management, and continuous bladder irrigation
  • Cerner EMR experience required
  • First-time travelers are not accepted
