Role Concept : Health & Design Performance Strategist
Purpose of the Role
To integrate evidence-based health, sustainability, and performance strategies into all BSA projects—Healing, Learning, and Discovery—connecting design intent with measurable outcomes. This role bridges research, planning, and technology to help BSA demonstrate the real-world impact of its design excellence philosophy : inspired solutions that improve lives.
Strategic Context
The Health & Design Performance Strategist is an emerging leadership position within the Performance & Innovation group of Design & Planning (see page 12, Design & Planning Vision). It strengthens the link between Research, Sustainability, and Operational Planning—turning insight into measurable design intelligence that informs our projects, our clients, and our brand story.
Core Accountabilities
1. Design Performance Integration
- Partner with Design Principals, Operational Planners, and Interior Design leadership to define project-specific health and performance metrics at kickoff.
- Co-lead visioning and alignment sessions to identify measurable outcomes tied to user experience, staff well-being, and operational efficiency.
- Re-engage near project completion to lead post-occupancy evaluations, verifying that performance goals and client success metrics were achieved.
- Translate findings into impact statements and storytelling tools for client presentations and awards submissions.
2. Research & Evidence Translation
Collaborate with Director of Research to convert academic findings into design strategies and project guidance.Develop benchmark data and create an internal repository for health and performance outcomes across BSA’s project portfolio.Author or co-author white papers, case studies, and conference presentations that elevate BSA’s thought leadership in health performance design.3. Sustainability & Innovation Partnership
Work closely with Sustainability Champion to align WELL, LEED, and carbon strategies within a shared Performance Framework.Partner with the Design Technology team to integrate measurable performance criteria into BSA’s AI and web-based tools (e.g., WELL benchmarking, outcome dashboards, and the Sustainability Advisor GPT).Provide strategic input to the BSA AI Web Application Tools initiative, ensuring that digital tools reinforce BSA’s commitment to design outcomes and evidence-based performance.4. Firmwide Engagement & Mentorship
Educate and coach project teams on performance-driven design thinking.Build internal awareness of how measurable design outcomes contribute to project success, client satisfaction, and market differentiation.Serve as a resource across all market sectors, starting with healthcare but expanding to learning and discovery environments.5. Collaborating with PICs to win work
Leveraging her skill sets in project pursuits, proposals, and interviews. A differentiator.Success Looks Like
