Job Summary :
The Development Manager plays a key role in advancing WELDs mission by managing grant writing and foundation relationships, supporting strategic communications, and providing essential administrative support to the organizations revenue generation. As a peer to the Marketing Manager, this position ensures WELDs development and marketing efforts are coordinated, effective, and aligned with organizational goals. The Development Manager must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and skilled at balancing multiple priorities, with strong writing and relationship management skills.
Duties / Responsibilities :
- Grants and Foundation Relations (60%)
- Research, write, and submit compelling grant proposals to foundations, public sector sources, corporations, and other funding prospects.
- Manage a portfolio of foundation relationships with thoughtful stewardship. Collaborate with Grant Administrator on ensuring timely reporting and compliance.
- Build and strengthen strategic relationships with principals, trustees, foundation staff, and elected officials to cultivate partnerships that lead to transformational gifts.
- Track grant deadlines and deliverables, maintaining accurate records in Salesforce (CRM).
- Collaborate with program staff to gather data, stories, and outcomes for proposals and reports.
- Identify new grant opportunities and assess alignment with WELDs mission and strategic priorities.
- Marketing and Messaging Support (20%)
- Partner with the Marketing Manager to build and maintain a centralized language library of key messages, stories, and data points.
- Assist with donor communications, including drafting updates, acknowledgments, and fundraising materials.
- Ensure consistency and accuracy of messaging across grant proposals, donor materials, and organizational communications.
- Administrative Support (20%)
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date donor and funder records in Salesforce.
- Assist with scheduling, correspondence, and document preparation for development initiatives.
- Provide support for fundraising events, donor briefings, and Development Committee activities as needed.
- Generate and distribute development reports for leadership and board use.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS :
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
Commitment to WELDs mission and values.35 years of experience in nonprofit development, with a focus on grant writing, foundation relations, and donor cultivation.Education or equivalent experience in nonprofit management, communications, or a related field. Formal degree not required.Lived experience with incarceration, addiction, or homelessness preferred.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.Experience with CRM systems (Salesforce preferred).High level of attention to detail and accuracy.Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER
