The Academic Technologist is a crucial team member dedicated to providing real-time support of teaching and learning technologies and consultative design and installation services.

This role will primarily assist with the support of the Colleges classroom technology on Hillsdales campuses (in Michigan and at remote sites) and online teaching / learning technology, as well as other information technology-related processes, workflows, and resources used by faculty, staff, and students on the Colleges campuses.

Responsibilities include break / fix support of classroom hardware and software, design and installation of classroom hardware and software, accessibility knowledge, and superior listening, observational, and research skills.

This role fits an individual who enjoys interacting with people and can effectively resolve problems by patiently listening, asking questions, and pursuing solutions. The position demands excellent communication skills, the ability to explain technological concepts to non-technical people, and the technical acumen to diagnose and resolve classroom technology issues on demand. A commitment to the Colleges mission is essential.

Essential Job Functions

Academic Technology Operation and Support

• Provide rapid break / fix support of classroom hardware, including but not limited to projectors, controllers, touchpanels, amplifiers, speakers, etc.
• Install classroom hardware / software.
• Assist with classroom technology design.
• Assist with related hardware and software setup, documentation, and information delivery as needed.
• Track classroom and lab equipment inventory.
• Develop KPIs to measure classroom support, hardware performance, and other metrics leading to opportunities for improvement.
• Provide secondary support for other academic technology team members as needed.
