MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY FOR
Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors Team Members
ABOUT THE POSITION
One of Samaritans' core program areas is our Grief Support Services (GSS). To support survivors in
their grieving, Samaritans offers suicide loss survivors nonjudgmental listening and peer support
through the following services :
- SafePlace Support Groups - virtual and in-person support groups for suicide loss
survivors
Survivor-to-Survivor Visits (SSN's) - Peer led visits for loss survivors virtually orin-person
Virtual or on-site presentations to help people understand what to expect in the grievingprocess and to provide information on how to cope with traumatic loss
The Annual Memorial - A non-denominational service for loss survivors to remember andmemorialize their loved ones
Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors (LOSS) – An active postvention model that involvesproactively responding to a suicide to provide immediate support to loved ones
The Senior Coordinator's role is to provide oversight and support to SGSS LOSS Team Members, as
well as to manage the service offerings that support those bereaved by suicide. The Senior
Coordinator works with SGSS leadership to develop best practices within the LOSS Teams, create
departmental plans, and measure program results.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
LOSS Teams
Coordinate and oversee all daily LOSS Team operations, including managing on-call scheduling,delayed response coordination and scheduling (SSN's) incident response, and ensuring procedures are
consistently followed and adapted to departmental needs
Serve as the primary point of contact for police departments, medical examiners, and othercommunity first responders, cultivating and sustaining strong working partnerships
Maintain accurate and confidential records of outreach responses and survivor contacts. Monitorand assess the effectiveness of outreach efforts and follow-up procedures, track data and outcomes
related to survivor engagement and volunteer participation for reports and continuous quality
improvement
Contribute to grant reporting, program documentation, and provide meeting minutes, trainingmaterials, and updated on-call schedules to team members monthly
Assist with establishing and maintaining LOSS team community partnershipsHelp evaluate LOSS team efficacyPrepare LOSS Team bags for activationsOutreach & Survivor Support
When on-call, respond to callouts promptly, accompany team members as needed, and uphold themission of the organization with the utmost professionalism. This may involve responding to the
scene of a suicide death and providing immediate crisis support to suicide loss survivors in person
or by phone
Ensure team members have adequate supplies and resources to leave behind at scenesSupport survivors through follow-up communication and connection to Samaritan'sresources
Respond to calls from the public and requests for information and resources from families,friends, workplaces, and anyone affected by suicide
Schedule delayed advocacy visits with survivors with the LOSS TeamMaintain a high level of knowledge of best practices, research, and resources related to suicideprevention, postvention, and grief support services
Alert supervisor to potential crisis or urgent situations as it relates to activations orsupporting any loss survivor
Team Member Support
Provide support to volunteer peer facilitators, specialists and LOSS team membersRecruit, screen, and provide comprehensive orientation and assist in ongoing training for newLOSS Team members on policies, procedures, and best practices
Provide ongoing mentorship and emotional support for team members, ensuring they practiceself-care and adhere to protocols
Lead monthly team debriefs after a response and continuing education opportunities, researchingand developing ongoing training needs
Implement volunteer peer facilitator and LOSS Team recruitment and retention strategiesCoordinate all volunteer peer facilitator and LOSS Team schedulesAssist with the coordination and delivery of volunteer trainingsPrograms
Coordinate Survivor to Survivor programming including scheduling, budget monitoring and qualityassurance
Plan and execute Grief Support related events including but not limited to : Annual Memorial, 5K,International Suicide Loss Survivor Day, Long-term Suicide Loss Survivor Day
KEY QUALIFICATIONS :
Minimum 3 years of professional experience in human servicesSuicide loss survivor preferredStrong communication skills, including the ability to make effective and persuasivepresentations
Adept at interacting with others in person, over the phone, on zoom, or via emailRespond and work with staff, managers, and external parties in a professional, respectful, andsensitive manner
Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentialityAbility to work independently and collaboratively to maximize teamwork across theorganization
Must be able to evaluate problems accurately and resolve conflict displaying good, soundjudgment
Effectively perform job responsibilities in a high-stress environmentComfort responding to the scene of a suicide death and entering homes where the death has justoccurred
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Attend SGSS Events listed above, organize materials and recruit volunteers to work at theevent
Maintain accurate and updated records in our Salesforce database ensuring all meetings andcontacts are tracked appropriately
Assist with communication and public awareness campaigns to support survivor servicesCollaborate internally and participate in cross-functional programing when appropriateUse technology to evaluate programs and to reach more people with Grief SupportServices
Represent GSS at other organization-wide events as necessaryParticipate in meetings with stakeholdersHave knowledge of trauma informed service deliveryHave knowledge of the grief process and the impact of grief on family systemsHave knowledge of the field of suicide and suicide prevention a plusDue to the nature of the position and the on-call responsibilities, the Senior Coordinator willparticipate in an on-call rotation. This means the work may take the individual to any location in
the towns served at any time of the day or night, 24 / 7 / 365, including responding to the scene of a
suicide. Occasional local travel for outreach, trainings, or events is also required
SALARY & BENEFITS
The salary range for this position is $65,000 - $72,000 annually and will be determined based on
experience and skill set.
