per week Shift : Shift 1 Position Summary Polysomnographic
technologists perform sleep tests and work with physicians to
provide information needed for the diagnosis of sleep disorders.
The technologist monitors brain waves, eye movements, muscle
activity, multiple breathing variables and blood oxygen levels
during sleep using specialized recording equipment. The
technologist interprets the recording as it happens and responds
appropriately to emergencies. Technologists provide support
services related to the treatment of sleep related problems
including helping patients use devices for the treatment of
breathing problems during sleep and helping individuals develop
good sleep habits. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Understands how to disassemble and assemble equipment for proper
cleaning. Cleans and disinfects all equipment according to
procedure Performs polysomnogram data acquisitions while monitoring
study-tracing quality to insure signals are artifact-free and make
adjustments, if necessary. Follows procedural protocols (such as
MSLT, MWT, parasomnia studies, PAP, oxygen titration etc) to ensure
collection of appropriate data. Demonstrates proficiency with
scoring sleep studies by applying accepted guidelines to sleep
staging and clinical events according to center specific protocols.
Document, routine observations including sleep stages and clinical
events, changes in procedure, and significant events in order to
facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.
Prepare and calibrate equipment required for testing to determine
proper functioning and make adjustments as necessary. Perform
appropriate physiological calibrations to ensure proper signals and
make adjustments if necessary. Comply with the BRPT Standards of
Conduct. Collect, analyze and integrate patient information in
order to identify and meet the patient-specific needs
(Physical / mental limitations, current emotional / physiological
status) regarding the testing procedures in conjunction with the
ordering physician or clinical directors and laboratory protocols.
Dedicated to the process of integrating the basics philosophies of
CQI : managing with facts, respecting people and focusing on the
customer to continually improve the production and services we
provide. Oversee and performs difficult and unusual procedures and
therapeutic interventions. Reviews / revises policy and procedure
manuals. Acts as preceptor for training technicians. Remains
current in new advances in sleep medicine including procedures,
equipment, and legislation. Implement appropriate intervention
(including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic
intervention such as continuous and BI-level positive airway
pressure, oxygen administration, etc) Minimum Qualifications
Successful completing of an accredited educational program leading
to an associate degree with an emphasis in polysomnography. - OR -
Successful completion of a polysomnography program of no less than
one year duration associated with a state licensed and / or a
nationally accredited educational facility or equivalent
experience. Certification by the Board of Registered
Polysomnographic technologists as a Registered Polysomnographic
