About The Position

Job Title : Surgical Technologist I

Experience : Minimum of 1 year OR experience, specifically in General, Orthopedic (total joints), and Gynecological (GYN) surgical procedures.

License : -

Certifications : Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification required.

Must-Have :

Successful completion of service-specific competencies.

Strong communication skills and customer service relations.

Excellent organizational and priority-setting skills.

Description :

Perform technical skill duties in all operating room specialty service areas.

Ensure that proper technical practices are employed according to accepted standards.

Provide proper maintenance, assembly, handling, and sterilization techniques for specialty instrumentation.

Follow aseptic techniques diligently.

Proactively identify contamination and breaks in aseptic techniques, and implement corrective actions.

Perform surgical counts accurately.

Follow policies and procedures for incorrect counts and report discrepancies appropriately.

Label drugs and solutions while monitoring quantities used.

Assist in the proper identification, preparation, handling, and labeling of surgical specimens.

Actively participate in the planning and set-up of instruments, supplies, and surgical drapes in an organized manner.

Assist the surgeon by demonstrating an understanding of patient anatomy and abnormalities affecting the surgical procedure.

Assist in case selection and planning of instrument needs.

Recognize and modify scrubbing procedures based on pertinent information and communicate effectively with the surgical team.

Respond to surgical emergencies and adhere to emergency management plans.

Inventory, receive, and store supplies under the direction of leadership.

Identify and report defective instruments, supplies, and equipment.

Assist with restocking operating and procedure rooms as well as sub-sterile areas.

Support the registered nurse during the intraoperative implementation phase of nursing practice.

Operate complex equipment and troubleshoot as necessary.

Serve as a mentor for Surgical Technician Trainees and act as a preceptor as needed.
