Volunteer Receptionist — Good News Home Inc.
Commitment : Part-time volunteer; flexible shifts (days, occasional evenings); minimum 6-month commitment preferred
Role summary
Serve as the warm, professional first point of contact for a small nonprofit residential program supporting up to 12 women in recovery. This volunteer position offers hands-on experience in nonprofit operations, client-centered service, and office administration while making a measurable difference in residents’ lives.
Key responsibilities
- Greet visitors and clients with a calm, welcoming presence.
- Answer, screen, and direct incoming phone calls and emails professionally.
- Notify staff of guest arrivals and coordinate basic visitor flow.
- Maintain an organized, attractive reception area with supplies and informational materials.
- Receive, sort, and distribute mail and deliveries.
- Support clerical tasks : filing, photocopying, transcribing, basic data entry, and preparing simple documents.
- Provide accurate information about programs, intake procedures, and events within established guidelines.
Volunteer experience and learning opportunities
Practical experience in nonprofit front-office operations and client intake protocols.Exposure to confidential client-focused environments and trauma-informed communication.Skill building in telephone etiquette, Microsoft Office, recordkeeping, and professional boundaries.Letters of recommendation and volunteer verification are available upon satisfactory completion of the commitment.Opportunity to attend select staff trainings and volunteer orientations.Why volunteer with us
