Senior Director – Southeast Cities Initiative (Advisory Services)

STV is seeking a Senior Director to support the Southeast Cities Initiative under Advisory Services, serving clients at the state, regional and local level.

Our growing team seeks a self‑motivated professional with a passion for supporting elected and agency leadership as well as internal staff mentoring. We value diverse management and intergovernmental experience, including previous elected or appointed leadership, strategic planning, federal and / or local policy development, organizational training, community of practice building, stakeholder engagement, and new market assessments. If you have completed specialized technical or management training, we wish to leverage these unique skill sets.

The candidate will report to the Vice President, National Cities Initiative Leader and will support the goal of maximizing decision maker relationships in relevant markets in the southeast to both solidify STV as a sought‑out advisor and identify growth opportunities.

The successful candidate will have proven experience not only working with states, cities, counties, MPOs, and special purpose authorities / districts but also establishing themselves as a trusted advisor to both elected and agency leaders. They will have a deep understanding of infrastructure planning process, experience managing complex projects, and a commitment to creating equitable and innovative solutions.

Responsibilities

Assist in positioning STV as a trusted advisor to support states, cities, counties, MPOs, and special purpose authorities / districts in cultivating innovative and effective solutions to improve infrastructure, transportation and organizational resilience.

Provide strategic leadership to STV regional teams on local prioritization efforts, decision maker engagement, and future pursuits.

Coordinate internal technical assistance and training of STV regional teams and other relevant staff in policy development, elected / agency leadership engagement and strategic planning.

Create a community of practice among relevant clients that allows for shared experiences, solutions, and actionable steps for improvements in transportation.

Provide local client support on workplace culture, leadership development, staff reorganization, intergovernmental partnership, project prioritization and other relevant issues.

Identify and track key conferences and events that strategically align with related service development. Develop strategy, structure, and content in preparation of engagement with major decision makers.

Advise internal leadership on new business in the state / local market and collaborate in the development of strategies to ensure successful growth.

Qualifications

Minimum of 10 years of experience with at least 3 years in a public or private leadership role.

In-depth understanding of transportation and infrastructure policy, stakeholder engagement, intergovernmental affairs and regulatory frameworks at the local and state levels.

Proven track record of navigating complex political landscapes, building coalitions, fostering meaningful collaborations, and identifying and growing strategic relationships that allow STV to support the vision and priority of major decision makers.

Ability to promote effective collaboration, identify and respond to national trends at the local level, create opportunities for proactive engagement, and ultimately drive positive project outcomes.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience in public speaking and presenting to diverse audiences.

Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to develop innovative solutions to complex transportation challenges.

Proven ability to lead teams, manage cross‑departmental collaboration, and drive projects to successful completion.

Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Public Administration, Urban Planning Engineering or a related field required. Master’s degree desired.

Compensation Range

$127,400.42 – $169,867.22
