About The Position

Must-Have :

Previous charge experience is preferred.

Experience with patient ratio management is required.

Proficiency in computerized charting systems, particularly Epic, is essential.

Description :

This position involves caring for patients in a hematology oncology unit.

The shift schedule is primarily during the night.

Patient staffing ratios are aimed to be 1 : 4 but may fluctuate.

Weekend shifts are variable based on unit requirements.

Self-scheduling requests will be considered for final schedule creation.

The first week of orientation will include day shifts, while the second week will have on-unit orientation with a preceptor.

Floating to other medical-surgical and oncology units may be required.

Patients diagnosed with lymphoma, multiple myeloma, acute leukemias, chronic leukemias, sickle cell disease, other non-hematologic cancers, and benign hematology conditions will be cared for.

Responsibilities include administering chemotherapy, blood transfusions, and IV antibiotics.

Nurses must be prepared for oncologic emergencies such as tumor lysis syndrome and cytokine release syndrome.

There is a strong focus on infection prevention protocols and strategies to prevent patient falls.

Skills in telemetry interpretation, rapid response team utilization, and IV therapy are critical.

Special equipment utilized in the unit includes telemetry systems and infusion pumps.

Interdisciplinary support services, such as physical therapy and social services, are available.

Candidates must ensure any required COVID-19 vaccinations are completed.

Flu vaccinations are required, with medical exemptions only.

All candidates need to provide two professional references, including one from a supervisory role.

Traveling candidates must adhere to credentialing and compliance processes as outlined.
