Base pay range
$40,000.00 / yr - $50,000.00 / yr
Duties include
- Monitor scanners, social media, and incoming tips to identify breaking news and developing stories.
- Coordinate coverage by assigning reporters, photographers, and crews to stories in real time.
- Serve as a communication hub for the newsroom, ensuring smooth information flow and accuracy.
- Develop strong relationships with local law enforcement, emergency officials, and community sources.
- Write, edit, and publish timely, accurate, and engaging content to our website, app, and social media platforms.
- Optimize stories with SEO best practices and compelling visuals.
- Engage with our audience online to grow and strengthen Louisiana First News’ digital presence.
- Craft breaking news alerts and push notifications to keep our viewers informed instantly.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experienceMinimum two years’ experience in news operationsProficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipmentAbility to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneouslyFlexibility to work any shiftSuccessful candidates
Demonstrate ability to identify potential stories, research information, follow-up on ongoing storiesHave strong news judgment, organization skills and ability to communicate with the public and newsroom staffNeed strong journalistic writing skills and understanding of AP styleMulti-task well and prioritize under deadlineThe ideal candidate is a self-starter who can take on several tasks at once and see them through to completion. They should show the ability to research and find great stories that help Louisiana First News bring our viewers the most up to date news.
