Job Summary
Provides professional, recovery based, client focused therapy services that value and reflect cultural and ethnic diversity. Utilizes best treatment practices which promote recovery, reduce stigma, and enhance quality of life and promotes a positive therapeutic milieu. Recommends new and / or modified therapeutic activities for individuals in care. Develops group activities taking into account the special needs of patient population. Conducts groups and develops curriculum based lesson plans. Communicates with the multi-disciplinary recovery team during IRP (Individual Recovery Plans). Reviews and provides information to the team regarding treatment services, the individual's skill, behavioral changes, level of functioning and therapeutic effectiveness in the treatment regimen. Provides on-going clinical data that would assist in improving clinical treatment.
Qualifications
Knowledge of counseling theories, principles, and professional practices involved in planning and providing diagnostic and treatment services for psychiatric patients. At least one year of experience must be equivalent to the next lower grade level (DS-9) and directly related to the work of the position.
Licensures, Certifications and other requirements
Requires licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the District of Columbia, Office of Professional Licensing Registration Programs.
Education
Candidates must have completed a full four (4) year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree with major in an academic field relating to the health science or allied science pertinent to the position.
Work Experience
Experience as a Counselor / Therapist providing therapeutic treatment services for individuals who represent a full range of diagnostic categories and degrees of psychiatric disabilities.
Work Environment
Work is performed in a controlled environment and involves some exposure to moderate risk of accidents and requires following basic safety precautions.

A person applying for a position in the Career Service, Educational Service, Management Supervisory Service, a line attorney position in the Legal Service (series 905), or an attorney position in the Excepted Service (series 905) who is a bona fide District resident AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION for the position may be awarded a 10-point residency preference over non-District applicants, unless the person declines the preference points. If selected, the person shall be required to present proof of bona fide District residency and maintain such residency for 7 consecutive years from the effective date of the appointment.
