Overview
This is a key position within the Application Development team. We are seeking a creative and innovative thinker to manage diverse application development tasks. The IT Application Engineer is responsible for the complete analysis, design, implementation, documentation, training, and ongoing support of multiple departmental software applications, including replacements to existing applications, as well as new applications. These applications may include custom-designed and developed applications or installed commercial applications. In addition, candidates must have an inclination to understand existing processes and systems, and possess strong interpersonal and communication skills. They should be able to make decisions quickly in consultation with team members and subject matter experts, build relationships, and understand the dynamics and critical nature of the business.
Responsibilities
- Establishing a detailed application specification through discussion with business departments; clarifying what actions the application is intended to perform.
- Breaking down the application specification into its simplest elements and translating this logic into a programming language; devising possible solutions to anticipated problems.
- Working as part of a project team to write a specific section of the application; combining all elements of the application design and testing it; testing sample data sets to check that output from the application works as intended.
- Conducting testing and installing the application into production; reacting to problems and correcting the application as necessary; evaluating and increasing the application's effectiveness.
- Adapting the application to new requirements, as necessary; conducting user-acceptance testing to ensure the application can be used easily, quickly, and accurately.
- Writing detailed documentation for the operation of the application by users and IT operations; consulting manuals, periodicals, and technical reports to learn new ways to develop applications and maintain existing skills and knowledge.
- Application support including updating, repairing, modifying, and developing existing software and applications.
- Maintain reliable and consistent attendance; follow safety procedures and wear PPE as needed; work effectively as a team member and communicate status of work / projects.
- Follow department quality standards / criteria; raise concerns with the immediate manager; demonstrate Cambro company culture and core values (Safety, Quality, Respect, Service).
- Understand the department's key performance indicators and contribute to achieving these goals individually and as a team.

Qualifications
6+ years of development experience and application architecture; Loves hands-on coding and managing high-visibility projects.Proficient with common information technology nomenclature; excellent knowledge and execution of software development methodologies and project reporting.Self-starter with excellent organizational skills; crisis management capabilities; able to work in ambiguous situations and adapt to changing priorities.Creative and innovative thinker; highly motivated and results oriented.Ability to collaborate across technology and infrastructure teams; excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to explain technical concepts to business leaders and business concepts to the infrastructure workforce.Ability to read and interpret safety and maintenance documents; ability to write routine reports and correspondence; ability to speak before groups.Educational background : Bachelors or Masters degree in computer science, information systems, business administration or related field, or equivalent work experience; IT related certifications preferred.Technical knowledge areas include IBM Power Systems, IBM i Development (RPGLE), IBM DB2, MS SQL Server, RMDS; rest API / XML / JSON; software change management; optional languages (C#, C++, PHP / HTML5 / CSS / JavaScript); optional software experience (Infor XA, GoAnywhere, EDI X12 / EDIFACT); Microsoft Office Suite (Office365, Excel, Access, Word, Project, PowerPoint).Physical Demands
