Overview: Our client is looking for an experienced Thermal Hydraulics Engineer to support computational thermal-hydraulic analysis for an advanced nuclear reactor program. This role focuses on evaluating core assembly designs and their behavior under various conditions for a sodium-cooled reactor system.
Primary Responsibilities: - Perform thermal-hydraulic analysis and engineering assessments of nuclear reactor core components and structures using computational fluid dynamics software, subchannel code, and hand calculations
- Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to analyze thermal and mechanical design considerations for the reactor and its components
- Provide technical presentations on analysis results to internal teams
- Prepare reports documenting findings and recommendations, and report results to the core thermal hydraulic team manager or lead
Position Requirements: - B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Mechanical, Nuclear, or related Engineering field from an accredited university
- 3-10+ years of experience with computational fluid dynamics modeling and simulation of nuclear reactor core components
- Expertise in 1D thermal-hydraulic evaluation and engineering calculations
- Proficiency with modern CFD tools; STAR-CCM+ preferred
- Strong skills in python and java scripting for automating modeling and simulation
- Experience with CAD modeling tools; SolidWorks preferred
- Travel up to 5% may be required.
Desired Qualifications: - Experience in the nuclear industry preferred
- Knowledge of liquid metal thermal-hydraulics or experience with nuclear reactor system codes preferred
- Familiarity with Software Quality Assurance (SQA) and Nuclear Quality Assurance (NQA-1) standards highly
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for formal documentation in an NQA-1 environment
