Job description

Contracts Coordinator, Business & Legal Affairs, Animation

Los Angeles, California, United States of America

Netflix is one of the world's leading entertainment services, with over 300 million paid memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, films and games across a wide variety of genres and languages. Members can play, pause and resume watching as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, and can change their plans at any time.

The Netflix Series Animation Contract Management team sits within the UCAN Business Affairs team and is responsible for ensuring that Above-The-Line (ATL) talent on our series are paid correctly and on-time, as well as tracking a variety of important option dates and deadlines.

The Role :

This is a highly cross-functional role, and the successful candidate must have the ability to work effectively and collaborate with the Business Affairs, Production Finance, Payroll, Labor, Tax, Production, Post Production and Creative teams. This person will also act as a strategic thought partner to those cross-functional teams across innovative deal structures. The Contract Management Coordinator will have extremely strong organizational skills and a high level of attention to detail, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills. The successful candidate will exemplify the core Netflix Values, be adaptable to change, and be able to juggle multiple responsibilities at the same time. This person will need to be self-motivated and must have the ability to work proactively, independently, and reliably under tight time-frames in a fast-paced environment.

In This Role You Will :

Proactively review, evaluate and execute the contractual financial obligations of agreements and deal terms for ATL talent working on our series, both domestically and internationally. Our team handles payments for rights, scripts, writers, producers, consultants, casting and voice directors, production companies and more. The payments we handle can cover projects from development through launch of the series.

Prepare one-time payment authorizations and recurring payment schedules for ATL talent to facilitate timely and accurate payments. Payments are processed internally via accounts payable or payroll. Our team provides guidance for applicable guild minimums, as well as guild PH&W rates and caps. In addition, you should be familiar with loan out corporations, pay entities, local tax withholding obligations, etc.

Track deadlines for ATL deals from the development phase through reversion, including subsequent seasons, talent and rights option deadlines and hold periods. We draft and issue relevant notices, including extensions, and option exercise notices. We track writers' room engagements, various development and production milestone deliveries, and order-to-series deadlines.

Create and maintain WGA tracking spreadsheets and liaise with writers' room support staff, as well as Netflix Creative and Business Affairs, for episodic script reporting and to ensure timely payments.

Collect ATL payroll start paperwork, and ensure that it is accurate and complete.

Serve as one of the points of contact for onboarding and offboarding above-the-line talent within Netflix Series Animation to ensure an excellent experience for our talent.

Act as an internal and external point-of-contact for payment and deadline related questions.

Create and maintain filing for payments and back-up within a cloud-based document management system, and enter financial information into a shared deal / contract database.

Periodically prepare payments and deadline tracking reports for various cross-functional teams for special ad-hoc projects.

Maintain flexibility and openness to take on additional projects as necessary, even outside of your area of expertise.

About You :

You have 3-5 years of experience in contracts and payments administration, legal and / or business affairs at a television studio, production company, or law firm, or experience in production payroll and / or production finance.

You have the ability to read, understand and analyze legal contracts with an emphasis on financial obligations and deadlines, and the ability to articulate issues using creative, production and financial context.

You are familiar with union labor agreements (WGA, Local 839, Local 399, etc.).

You are familiar with Google Workspace (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Calendar and Mail)

Additional knowledge of entertainment payroll practices outside of the U.S. is a bonus, but not required. Netflix Series Animation produces shows around the world, including but not limited to the UK, Europe, & Australia.

You thrive in a fast-paced environment, possess a high level of intellectual curiosity, and exhibit the highest personal and professional standards of integrity and ethics.

You are a collaborative teammate and you are willing to assist your colleagues when necessary.

You are self-motivated, disciplined, highly organized and able to manage time effectively with the ability to pivot and adapt to shifting priorities without missing a beat.

Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $70,000 - $175,000.

Netflix provides comprehensive benefits including Health Plans, Mental Health support, a 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer match, Stock Option Program, Disability Programs, Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts, Family-forming benefits, and Life and Serious Injury Benefits. We also offer paid leave of absence programs. Full-time hourly employees accrue 35 days annually for paid time off to be used for vacation, holidays, and sick paid time off. Full-time salaried employees are immediately entitled to flexible time off.

Inclusion is a Netflix value and we strive to host a meaningful interview experience for all candidates. If you want an accommodation / adjustment for a disability or any other reason during the hiring process, please send a request to your recruiting partner. We are an equal-opportunity employer and celebrate diversity, recognizing that diversity builds stronger teams. We approach diversity and inclusion seriously and thoughtfully. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, ancestry, national origin, caste, sex, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity or expression, age, disability, medical condition, pregnancy, genetic makeup, marital status, or military service.
