Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Chief Administrative Officer, the Research Administrator 3 applies advanced professional concepts to independently perform the full range of research administration and financial analysis duties for the Genome Center. The incumbent will develop financial projections, create and manage sponsored and departmental budgets, ensure compliance with sponsor and university policies, and provide strategic guidance to principal investigators and leadership. Responsibilities include managing all aspects of pre- and post-award administration, overseeing financial operations and analysis for departmental and core activities, and supporting other financial and administrative functions

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and / or certification if required of the position

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Management or related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Minimum of five years' experience in financial management, business management or accounting.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment, with dozens of stakeholders and deadlines.
  • Skills to implement and maintain effective accounting and budgeting controls, including cost controls, auditing, fund accounting, and cost accounting.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to independently research develop and recommend solutions to complex financial problems and issues.
  • Ability to create and maintain multiple complex budgets, personnel functions, sponsored project proposals, purchasing, payroll, ledger reconciliation, and fiscal close.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, or closely related field.
  • Knowledge of UCD School of Medicine financial accounting, including multiple components of pay (MCOP), over-the-cap salary, etc.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including Macros, Pivot Tables, Power Query, XLOOKUP, etc. Knowledge of policies surrounding federal awards including NIH, NSF, and USDA.

  • Department Overview

    Located in the College of Biological Sciences, the UC Davis Genome Center coordinates interdisciplinary research in the areas of genomics, metabolomics, proteomics and bioinformatics, and is involved in the training of undergraduate students, graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. The Center carries more than 250 employees. Annual expenditures total more than $30 million from multiple sources. Approximately $6.4 million of expenditures come through the Center's four service Cores, which provide genomic technologies to approximately 700 customers to UC, higher-ed, not-for-profit, and corporate clients.

    This position serves as the lead financial analyst for the Genome Center, integrating financial management across sponsored projects, departmental accounts, and recharge core facilities. This position plays a central role in managing the Center's complex funding. In addition, this position provides guidance and oversight for the center's other Research Administrator 2 in grants management, serving as the lead resource for pre and post-award processes.
