Assurance Senior Associate, Non-Profit & Healthcare
Job Summary :
The Assurance Senior Associate, Non-Profit & Healthcare will be responsible for coordinating the day-to-day "in-charge" duties of planning, fieldwork, and "wrap-up" to include the preparing of financial statements with disclosures, applying most areas of GAAP as necessary and documenting, validating, testing, and assessing various control systems. This position will also be responsible for acting as the client contact for basic questions and information. Additionally, the individual in this role will help train staff and be the main liaison with BDO RISE.
Job Duties : Control Environment
- Applies knowledge and understanding of the collective effect of various factors on establishing or enhancing effectiveness, or mitigating the risks, of specific policies and procedures by :
- Applies knowledge of transactional flow and key transactional cycles to complete audit work
- Documents, validates and assesses the design and operating effectiveness of the clients' internal control system
- Identifies and communicates suggested improvements to client internal controls and accounting procedures in an effort to reduces risk within the client organization
- Provides on-the-job-training to the engagement staff during audit field work as well as supervise and review the work of the audit staff
GAAP
Applies knowledge and understanding of accounting principles; applying these principles to client transactions; and documenting and communicating an understanding and application of these principles by :Communicates financial statement disclosure requirements to clientsDrafts complex sets of financial statements with disclosuresRecognizes and applies new pronouncements to client situationsIdentifies, analyzes and discusses alternative generally accepted accounting principles with the engagement management team and the client, as neededIdentifies complex accounting issues and brings them to the attention of superiors for resolutionCoaches less experienced team members in new areasConsiders Uniform Guidance rules in understanding and executing financial statement audits under Government Auditing StandardsGAAS

Applies knowledge and application of BDO audit manual to guide effective and efficient delivery of quality services and products by :Coordinates the day-to-day conduct of the audit plan by ensuring the field work is executed and completed as planned, in accordance with timetable established, with Firm's policies and procedures and tracks budget to actual and notifies the engagement management team early of expected budget varianceApplies BDO audit approach and methodologies, including vast BDO tools and technology available, to execute the audit and through proper archiving proceduresIdentifies and proposes outcomes to critical issuesResearch
Applies methodology used to seek or maintain information from authoritative sources and to draw conclusions regarding a target issue based on the information by :Utilizes internal and external research tools for documenting issues, approaches and conclusionsResearches complex areas of accounting, forming an initial opinion on the correct treatment independently while considering and documenting the impact on the client audit engagementAssists the engagement manager with gathering appropriate information about the business and information system, including the accounting system, to form an adequate basis for the preparation of the audit strategyDrafts the Audit Planning Document and utilizes APT Next Gen to create audit programsCollaborates with the engagement manager to establish the responsibilities of individual audit staff for specific areas of audit work allocationOther duties as required

Education :
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, requiredMaster's degree in Accountancy, preferredExperience :
Three (3) or more years of prior experience in public accounting, requiredOne (1) or more years of prior supervisory experience, preferredOne (1) or more years of relevant experience in the healthcare industry, preferredOne (1) or more years of nonprofit audit experience, preferredLicense / Certifications :
CPA, preferredActively pursuing completion of CPA licensing requirements, preferredSoftware :
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint, preferredPrior experience with various assurance applications and research tools beneficial, preferredLanguage :

NYC / Long Island / Westchester Range : $84,000 - $105,000
