Responsibilities
- Directing to create innovative curriculum and lead a nationally recognized MFA program.
- Sustain a trajectory of creative achievement / research consistent with the expectations of a flagship research university.
- Maintain a strong level of professional engagement in directing for live entertainment at a national and / or international level.
- Teach courses in directing and acting for both undergraduate and graduate students, and teach in other theatre performance areas as qualified.
- Lead the MFA Directing Program as Head; typical teaching load is 3 / 3, including directing departmental productions.
- Mentor students, assist in student recruitment, supervise graduate teaching assistants, and mentor graduate thesis and undergraduate capstone projects.
- Serve on departmental and university committees; contribute to curriculum development for contemporary directing and performance practice.
- Develop and maintain a creative / scholarly profile aligned with tenure and promotion expectations at a tier-one research university.
Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include experience and vision in directing; ability to create innovative curriculum and lead an MFA program.Excellence in teaching, mentoring students, and experience with diverse student populations at graduate and / or undergraduate levels.Commitment to inclusive excellence and culturally responsive pedagogy; dedication to building a diverse and equitable learning environment.Expertise in a variety of theatre methodologies (e.g., Stanislavski, Meisner, Michael Chekhov, Lecoq, Theatre of the Oppressed, Brecht, Devised Theatre, Peter Brook, etc.) and inclusion of non-Western traditions (Black / Afrocentric, Chicano, Latin American, Indigenous, Asian, etc.).Ability to contribute to ongoing development of directing and performance practice.Seniority level
